    Reporting Accountant - CA(SA)

    Job Description
    Reporting Accountant – Newly Qualified (CA)SA

    • The Finance department of Intelligent Debt Management (IDM), a Financial Services group based in Cape Town, seeks a newly qualified CA(SA) to join the Finance team. The role of the successful candidate will be as a Junior Reporting Accountant and will report directly to the Group Finance Manager. The candidate must be highly efficient, energetic, motivated, ambitious and willing to learn, as well as being prepared to make a commitment to the business in the medium to long term.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Maintaining the general ledger
    • Group revenue calculation and journals
    • Posting of monthly journals
    • Year end audit responsibilities i.e. liaising with auditors and assisting with the preparation of Annual Financial Statements
    • Advising on appropriate accounting treatment of complex transactions
    • Preparation of managements accounts and group consolidation
    • Fair value calculation for insurance cell captive
    • Balance sheet reconciliations
    • Tracking and monitoring the Short-Term insurance business
    • Bank reconciliations for insurance business. Reconciling premiums and claims bank accounts and review of Bordereaux submissions
    • Payment of Claims and Reconciliation of claims account to board submissions
    • Calculation of the claims reserve
    • Maintain the fixed assets register
    • Maintaining and updating loan amortisations schedules
    • Review of supplier invoices and supplier recons
    • Detailed monthly tax calculations (Income Tax and Deferred Tax)
    • Performing balance sheet recons/monthly review of balance sheet
    • Reviewing monthly VAT returns
    • Supporting Finance Manager and Head of Finance with ad hoc projects

    Key Competencies:

    • Be fluent in spoken and written English
    • Have strong attention to detail and accuracy
    • Have strong planning, organizing and time management skills
    • Be able to work independently as well as be a team player
    • Be able to multi-task effectively
    • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Be self-motivated, by taking an interest in the job, and obtaining satisfaction from the achievement of a job well done.
