Research Engineer at IBM

Your Role and Responsibilities

As a member of our IBM Research team, your responsibilities will include developing, operationalizing, and scaling applications and platforms. You will develop features across the entire stack including front end, back end and DevOps. You will work closely with local and international teams to deliver value to our partners in industry, academia, government, non-profits, and start-ups.

You will develop innovative software solutions, contribute technical expertise to top tier conference publications and protect intellectual property by filing patents. You may also contribute to open source projects, and mentor students and start-ups.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise

• At least 4-year undergraduate or an Honours degree in Computer Science, Maths, Physics, or Engineering.
• 5 years experience developing software professionally.
• Have a good understanding of the software development lifecycle.
• Experience developing user interfaces with JavaScript, CSS and HTML
• Experience building and securing REST API’s
• Experience with Python and Java
• Experience with containerization and deploying cloud applications.
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases
• Experience with Linux command line tools and scripting.

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

• Postgraduate degree in Computer Science, Maths, Physics, or Engineering
• Experience with AI/ Machine Learning, Quantum Computing, or High Performance Computing (HPC).
• Experience in scientific research or software engineering for research.
• Experience using containerized cloud platforms such as Kubernetes or OpenShift
