    Research Study Logistics Coordinator (Worcester Campus)

    Research Study Logistics Coordinator (Located in Worcester)  Grade 13.1
    Two-year fixed-term contract with the possibility of extention.

    • This study is sponsored by the Boston Medical Center in Boston, (MA, USA) and is funded by the US National Institutes of Health (NIH). This study aims to elucidate the relationship between illicit smoked drug use and Tuberculosis (TB) transmission in the Western Cape.

    Duties

    Specific duties include but are not limited to:

    • Transporting samples around Worcester and from Worcester to Cape Town up to twice weekly;
    • Working with the study team (research study coordinator,  nurses, and research assistants) to assist with participant study visit tracking;
    • Transporting participants to and from study visits;
    • Transporting study participants identified as being ill to the clinic;
    • Preventing protocol violations and maintaining minimum protocol deviations, particularly involving study participants and specimen transport;
    • Reporting all protocol deviations immediately to the field study coordinator;
    • Creating and maintaining logs for sample and participant tracking;
    • Helping the field team to monitor and log quantity and expiration dates of specimen sample supplies, and ensuring timely organisation of sample supplies;
    • Developing methods to improve sample and participant transport procedures, logging and tracking;
    • Being involved with and knowledgeable about the local community in Worcester;
    • Being available for weekly meetings with the field team and international research team.


    Job Requirements

    • High school training;
    • Fluency in English (written and verbal communication);
    • Previous research experience;
    • Previous experience with the transport of biohazardous materials/dangerous goods;
    • The ability to work and be based in Worcester, Western Cape, Monday through Friday;
    • A valid driver's licence. Must be comfortable driving for long periods;
    • The ability to lift and move supplies weighing up to 12 kg.

    Recommendation

    • Matric certificate;
    • Fluency in Afrikaans and/or isiXhosa, or some level of isiXhosa understanding.
