    Researcher: Rangeland And Forage Science (2 Years Contract) (Roodeplaat (Rfi - Api))

    Description

    • Conducts research and manages research projects.
    • Initiates, manages and contributes towards national projects.
    • Identifies the need for human resources in project(s) and manages the allocated resources.
    • Is accountable for compiling and managing the project budgets.
    • Actively sources new national research opportunities and write research proposals.
    • Plans and co-ordinates research with single or multi-disciplinary team.
    • Identifies the need for resources (equipment and material) in project(s) and manages them accordingly.
    • Manages data capture, analysis, interpretations and recommendations.
    • Compiles detailed reports and seeks approval for final reports.
    • To ensure successful transfer of scientific technology i.e. compilation of reports, oral and poster presentations at local and International fora.
    • Publishes peer reviewed articles and popular articles (in line with the competency profile).
    • Builds and maintain relationships with national stakeholders and strategic partners to secure external funding.
    • Develop capacity at an appropriate level within or outside projects,
    • Strong practical experience and technical knowledge of appropriate research projects, financial and human resource management.
    • Supervise or co-supervise PhD and MSc students.

    Requirements

    • PhD degree or an MSc plus a minimum of 3 years working experience in pasture science or agronomy with a strong focus on crop science.
    • Research planning and management of research projects: At least 3 years’ experience in a relevant scientific research environment, post MSc with a national record of accomplishment on the level of a researcher.
    • Collaboration: Record of building national and international partnerships and networks. The researchers work under guidance and with support of seniors.
    • Initiation, planning and execution of research projects.
    • Minimum 3-5 peer reviewed publications or number of publications should be equivalent to what was required from master’s and PhD level for their field respectively.
    • Registration with a scientific and professional body will be an added advantage.
    • Proven record of accomplishment for generating external income for projects in line with requirements on Master’s and PhD level. In this respect proven record of writing of proposals as part of Master's and PhD studies.
    • Proven record of participating as speaker nationally as part of Master's and PhD level. Must be able to show competence in presenting research results.
    • Proven record for financial management of projects.
    • Proven track record of mentoring and supervising/co-supervising other researchers and students.
