    Section Engineer Contracts & Projects

    Job Description:
    As our Section Engineer Contractors & Projectsyour responsibilities will include but not limited to:

    • Safety, Health, and Environment
    • Select and allocate resources for safe work.
    • Consider environmental factors and minimise adverse impacts.
    • Oversee safety management system elements and comply as appropriate.
    • Ensure critical controls are functioning.
    • Implement and maintain safety standards.
    • Promptly investigate all incidents.
    • Ensure subordinates are competent for safe task facilitation.
    • Active participation in VFLs, Risk Assessments and close-out of Safety Actions.
    • Authority:
    • Stop unsafe work in any area – not just in your area. We are safety leaders.
    • Issue safety-related instructions to any employees or contractors at the workplace.
    • Initiate action, including training, against subordinates and contractors for their role in unsafe behaviour.
    • Technical Directive:
    • Strategically align project objectives with resource allocation and scheduling.
    • Elevate project management standards by fostering a culture of excellence and providing constructive feedback to project teams.
    • Proactively identify and mitigate project risks to ensure smooth execution and timely completion.
    • Implement robust quality control and assurance measures throughout the project lifecycle, including contractor management and routine testing.
    • Authority:
    • Review progress against the plan and make changes and adjustments accordingly.
    • Assign tasks to subordinates in line with achieving the agreed production plan.
    • Monitor and optimise work schedules.
    • Assign tasks to supervisors to meet required tasks and reporting.
    • Stop or redirect work that is not being executed according to quality standards or is not being solved by the shift supervisor if needed.
    • Contractors & Projects:
    • Project Planning and Scheduling: Collaborate with project team members to develop comprehensive plans, schedules, and timelines for project execution.
    • Contract Management: Supervise contract execution with subcontractors, suppliers, and stakeholders, including contract review and negotiation.
    • Quality Control and Assurance: Monitor project activities to ensure compliance with quality standards and specifications, implementing inspection and control procedures.
    • Resource Management: Effectively manage human and material resources to ensure efficient execution, coordinating with project managers, subcontractors, and suppliers.
    • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate potential risks, implementing strategies to address issues impacting project performance.
    • Health and Safety Compliance: Enforce safety protocols and conduct inspections to ensure adherence to health and safety regulations on construction sites.
    • Cost Control and Budget Management: Monitor project expenditures, manage budgets, and identify opportunities for cost savings to meet budget constraints.
    • Stakeholder Communication: Foster communication and collaboration among project stakeholders, providing regular updates and addressing concerns to maintain positive relationships.
    • Problem-solving and Decision-making: Resolve construction-related issues promptly and decisively to minimise delays and maintain progress.
    • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate project documentation, prepare progress reports, and ensure compliance with reporting requirements by documenting project milestones and activities.
    • People and Teams:
    • Communicate effectively and listen actively.
    • Set clear expectations and goals, track progress, and handle changes effectively.
    • Monitor performance, address issues, and enforce rules and standards.
    • Provide training and development opportunities.
    • Authority:
    • Share information at appropriate forums.
    • Introduce change following business needs.
    • Prescribe critical tasks and measure performance.
    • Enforce discipline to ensure conditions conducive to work.
    • Develop or ensure the development of role requirements.
    • Select and appoint staff to role requirements.
    • Budget and Cost Control Management:
    • Ensure compliance with the budget for the area of responsibility.
    • Evaluate and approve cost impacts in the area of responsibility and revise the budget accordingly.
    • Identify, communicate, and execute potential cost-reduction initiatives.
    • Authority:
    • Generate authorisation for expenditures.
    • Revise budget after receiving appropriate authorisations.
    • Take necessary action to correct misallocations.
    • This role is in Engineering & Maintenance (ENG) department on a band 6.12 level reporting to the Manager Engineering & Maintenance

    Qualifications:

    • Relevant Bachelor’s Degree, or
    • Relevant Bachelor of Technology on an NQF7-level
    • GCC (Government Certificate of Competence) in Engineering
    • SA Drivers Licence Code B

    Technical Knowledge

    • 6-8 years of relevant experience in project and contractor management in an operational environment.
    • Knowledge of applicable legislation and statutory requirements.
    • Understanding contract management, including contract types, terms, and legal considerations.
    • Knowledge of business process mapping, functional design specification document development, test cases, scenario testing, and document/change control.
    • Awareness of health, safety, and environmental regulations related to construction projects.
    • Proficiency in MS Office and other 3rd Party Interface software.
