Section Head: Chemistry: Forensic Science Laboratory: Division: Detective and Forensic Services: Re-Advertisement (at the level of Brigadier) Ref Number: 26/10/3880 at South African Police Service (SAPS)

Generic appointment requirements applicable to all posts: 

Applicants:

• Must be fluent in at least two of the official languages, of which one must be English; 
• Must have a valid light motor vehicle drivers’ licence: 
• Must have no tattoo mark(s) which will be visible when wearing any uniform of the Service; 
• Will be subjected to a preliminary security clearance vetting, which must reflect no negative issue against such candidate; and 
• Will be required to undergo a Lifestyle Audit and Top Secret Security Clearance Vetting process. 

The following generic competencies are applicable to every post: 

• The post requires skills in: strategic capability, analytical ability and leadership, programme and project management, financial management, change management, service delivery innovation, problem solving and analysis, people management and empowerment, client orientation, audit and assurance, audit and risk management experience, stake holder 

APPOINTMENT REQUIREMENTS 

Applicants:

• Must have at least a three (3) year Degree or Diploma (accredited by SAQA on NQF level 6 or higher) in Natural Science / Degree Diploma majoring in Chemistry. 
• An applicable post graduate qualification relevant to the core functions of the post, relevant training and development in a Middle Management Learning Programme, Leadership and Management Training Programme, and/or Programme and Project Management, and/or Quality Management may be an advantage; 
• Must have a minimum period of three years’ appropriate managerial experience. 

CORE FUNCTIONS: 

• To manage an efficient and credible national forensic chemistry service regarding the application of forensic analysis for the identification of drug, medicine, harmful substances, ignitable liquids related exhibit material, as well as the provision of relevant statements in that regards and expert court testimony to support the Criminal Justice process. 
• Manage an efficient and credible national laboratory service regarding the application of crime scene investigation and relevant analysis for fire originandcause determination, clandestine drug and medicine manufacturing, poisoning and liquor related cases as well as relevant reports in that regards and expert court testimony to support the Criminal Justice process. 
• Manage an efficient forensic chemistry service in support of the Forensic Science Laboratory service delivery targets such as the following but not limited to case finalization rate, case turnaroundtime, service provided to the Criminal Justice System. 2 
• Manage and utilise human, financial, physical and information resources in the immediate post environment in accordance with the strategies, priorities and regulatory framework of the SAPS.
