Senior Architect / Technologist: Internal Technical Specialist at SAOTA

• As the company and the number of projects worldwide increases, we have realized the value of staff with a solid technical background who can help ensure that SAOTA’s design vision is realized in the execution of our projects. This is a role that we would like to amplify and formalize within the company and requires applicants with aptitude and experience in Stage 4 and 5 (particularly in coordination, detail design and contract administration), but who also have a keen eye for design.

Typical day would consist of:

• Reviewing designs, highlighting technical challenges and providing solutions that are sympathetic to the design intent.
• Collaborating with international design and technical consultants to achieve a design which meets SAOTA’s high standard and also performs to an international standard
• Guide and help to train architects with less technical experience
• Ultimately, where clients can be convinced of the merits and the candidate has proven to be capable, we would hope that staff in this position would be afforded the opportunity to travel and inspect our projects internationally at key milestones; as well as attending in-person coordination meetings overseas
• Develop a library of appropriate technical solutions for different regions and climates, while keeping up to date with advances in international construction techniques (in collaboration with the office Resource Centre)
• The company is also actively engaged with principles of sustainable design, and this role would be seen to play a key part in amplifying sustainability in our designs

Qualifications:

• MArch / MTech / BAS or equivalent qualification
• A minimum of 2 - 5 years experience with substantial exposure to coordination and construction
• Only candidates with either relevant University or Technicon qualifications will be considered for the position
• A demonstrated aptitude for complex detail and coordination resolution
