Senior Auditor: Enterprise Support at Santam Insurance

The Role

Santam has an exciting opportunity available for a Senior Auditor: Enterprise Support within Group Internal Audit: Santam Corporate Services, based in Cape Town or Johannesburg.

What will you do?

To conduct or assist in risk based internal audit reviews, to deliver on the internal audit plan and provide Santam’s Audit Committee with independent assurance on the management of financial and regulatory risks within the Santam Group (includes subsidiaries, portfolio managers and underwriting agencies). This will be done in accordance with the annual audit plan approved by Santam’s Audit Committee and conducted in terms of International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Audit.

Principle Accountabilities

• Perform assurance and consulting reviews across the Santam Group, primarily within the Enterprise Support portfolio.
• Assist in performing reviews of Control Functions (Risk Management, Compliance, Actuarial) and independent reviews of the Own Risk Solvency Assessment policies, processes and reports.
•  Assist in performing reviews of Governance; Risk Management and Control practices (Prudential and Conduct Standards).
• Provide assistance in performing reviews of Capital and Pricing models and in co-ordination and execution of the Internal Financial Controls assurance plan.
• Assurance over the implementation of the IFRS 17 accounting standard and its interpretations, and the impact on business processes
•  Responsible for audit execution, from planning to report finalisation.
• Performing risk and control assessments, as well as developing and review of audit procedures.
• Prepare audit findings, compile draft audit report, and advise on practical recommendations in support of the achievement of Santam Group’s and business partners strategic and financial objectives.
•  Follow up on audit issues raised and provide input into the reports to the audit committee
•  Maintain quality standards in terms of the audit methodology, approach and documentation.
• Building relations within the GIA team and clients
• Supporting a combined assurance model (includes working with external auditors and other assurance providers).
• Minimal, national travelling to Santam offices and partners may be required.

Qualifications and Experience

• BAcc, BCom Accounting, BCompt or similar degree
• Completed external audit articles
• CA (SA) / CIA or professional designations with SAIPA, CIMA or ACCA are highly desirable
• At least 5 years of experience in performing audit / assurance of which at least 3 years need to be on complex and or specialised audit areas such as Finance, Governance and Regulatory Reporting
• Functional knowledge in the area of finance, risk and regulatory including the requirements of IFRS17 advantageous.
• Experience in insurance related audits and knowledge of insurance processes advantageous.
