Senior BI / Power BI Developer – Contract – Onsite – Sandton at Datafin Recruitment

ENVIRONMENT:

• Own the end-to-end design and development of sophisticated Power BI dashboards and management information solutions for the Licence to Operate programme. 
• This is not simply a dashboard-building role.
• The individual must be sufficiently senior to engage stakeholders, interrogate requirements, understand complex risk and control data, integrate multiple data sources and independently translate business questions into high-quality analytical products.

DUTIES:

• Design, build and deploy sophisticated Power BI dashboards and reporting solutions.
• Work with business, risk, technology and control stakeholders to understand the underlying questions dashboards need to answer.
• Analyse and integrate data from multiple systems and data sources, including situations where the data landscape may initially be unclear.
• Understand the underlying controls, metrics, KRIs, KPIs, thresholds, risk indicators and management actions represented by the data.
• Develop appropriate data models, semantic layers, measures and calculations required to support the dashboards.
• Design reporting that enables users to move from enterprise-level risk visibility through to detailed underlying drivers and exceptions.

Build tailored dashboard experiences for different audiences, including:

• Executive leadership
• Management
• Risk and control owners
• Technical and operational teams
• Enable drill-down, trend analysis, exception reporting, root-cause exploration and proactive identification of emerging risks.
• Ensure dashboards are performant, scalable, intuitive and maintainable.
• Establish appropriate Power BI development standards, documentation and governance.
• Work closely with the UI/UX Designer to ensure dashboards are both analytically rigorous and exceptionally easy to consume.
• Provide documentation and knowledge transfer to the client’s internal teams.

REQUIREMENTS:

• We are looking for a highly experienced Power BI specialist, ideally with 8+ years of BI/data analytics experience and significant enterprise Power BI delivery experience.

Strong candidates should demonstrate:

• Advanced Power BI development expertise.
• Expert-level DAX.
• Strong Power Query / M capability.
• Advanced data modelling and dimensional modelling.
• Experience integrating multiple and heterogeneous data sources.
• Strong SQL capability.
• Experience with Power BI Service, workspaces, deployment, security and governance.
• Strong understanding of dashboard performance optimisation.
• Experience designing executive and management dashboards, rather than purely operational reports.
• Ability to work independently with senior stakeholders and ambiguous requirements.
• Strong analytical capability and ability to understand what the data is actually communicating.

Highly Desirable:

• Experience within a large bank or financial services environment, particularly in one or more of:
• Technology risk, operational risk, controls, compliance, regulatory reporting, technology operations, IT service management, resilience or Licence to Operate environments.
