Senior Engineer / Team Lead (Electrical) at Proconics

Purpose
Proconics Vanderbijlpark is growing its Electrical team. This team provides EPC services to clients mainly in the petrochemical industry. As a Senior Electrical Engineer/Team Lead, you will work closely with the Senior Manager of Electrical Engineering, ensuring that your team is aligned with the Department’s objectives executing projects and responsible for all aspects of engineering to ensure the successful development of electrical deliverables, as well as interfacing with other disciplines You will be the technical lead on several projects at a time and you may be the project manager on smaller projects. Responsibilities include engineering and project management to ensure the successful execution of projects.  

Requirements

• One of several team leaders in the electrical division reporting to the Senior Manager – Electrical.
• Lead a team of resources which may include engineers, technologists and/or designers. Typical teams will have up to 5 resources.
• Execute single-discipline and multidisciplinary projects either as the electrical technical lead or the overall engineering manager. The technical lead/engineering manager is responsible for the technical quality ofthe project. The Team Leader will typically be in charge of several projects at the same time.
• On certain projects this role will include being the project manager. The project manager is responsible for the budget, schedule and safety of the project as well as contract management. This will include management of subcontractors where applicable.
• Participate in multi-disciplinary engineering activities and ensure close cooperation with other divisions.
• Good understanding of standards and regulations to evaluate the quality and compliance of installed electrical systems.
• Compile tenders and quotations for new projects.
• Report on the progress and performance of projects to the discipline manager and/or project-specific sponsor.
• Skill sharing and development of team members.
• Responsible for managing results through a team.
• Responsible for the development of engineering design solutions to support projects and clients as part of the services the Vanderbijlpark team offer.
• Development of basic and detailed design deliverables effectively and efficiently within the engineering budget, on schedule, and of high quality.  
• Liaise with clients to gain insight into problem statements/scope definition of design requirements.
• Planning and prioritizing design efforts to ensure effective delivery of projects.
• Interfacing between other disciplines.
• Compiling tenders and quotations for new projects. Responsible for business development, introducing new and retaining existing clients to Proconics to be able to secure work.
• Take responsibility for your development and stay ahead of the industry standard, including maintaining your registration with professional bodies.
• Willing to travel outside of Vanderbijlpark for work at times.  

Qualifications/Experience

• To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:

• B. Eng/B Sc (Eng) in Electrical Engineering.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa is an advantage.
• >7 years’ experience.
• Experience in leading an engineering team in a basic and detailed design function.
• LV & MV Detail Design Engineering background – Distribution board design, electrical panel & system design, switchgear, and auxiliary system design.
• Knowledge and mastery of petrochemical and industry design specifications, standards, legislation, an international best practices.  
• Ability to supervise, guide, and lead the electrical engineering team and to continuously update the philosophy on generating quality engineering deliverables as per client and business requirements.
• Construction and commissioning exposure.
• Understanding of other engineering disciplines’ processes and how to integrate with other disciplines’ interfaces.
• Affinity for and experience in business management of a sub-group in a professional service company.
• Driver’s License and/or means of transport.
