Senior Lecturer (Faculty of Humanities: Dean's Office) (3 Year Fixed-Term Contract) at University of Johannesburg

Job purpose:

• To offer writing support, mentorship, and guidance to undergraduate students in the BA Extended Programme. To guide students on how to improve their writing and engage responsibly with AI.

Responsibilities:

Teaching:

• Offer consultations, seminars, and workshops on how to improve writing when producing essays, assignments, and projects.
• Offer expert guidance on responsible AI use.
• Supervise postgraduate students.

Research:

• Conduct own research and publish articles in accredited journals.

Administration/Management:

• Share in academic and administrative tasks commensurate with the position.

Minimum requirements

• A PhD (NQF 10) qualification in English.
• Five (5) years of university lecturing experience.
• Publication track record.
• Supervision track record.
• Familiarity with issues related to writing and AI use.

Recommendations:

• Experience in working with Extended Curriculum Programmes (ECP) or student academic development initiatives.
• Evidence of integrating responsible AI practices into teaching and learning.
• Experience in facilitating writing centres, academic literacy programmes, or similar student support initiatives.
