Senior Mechanical Engineer Bulk Materials Handling at Network Recruitment

• We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer – Bulk Materials Handling to join our engineering team. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled engineer with extensive experience in the design, analysis, and delivery of complex bulk materials handling projects across the mining, minerals processing, ports, cement, power, and industrial sectors.
• The successful candidate will provide technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle, from concept and feasibility studies through detailed engineering, procurement support, construction, commissioning, and client handover.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the mechanical design of bulk materials handling systems for mining and industrial projects.
• Design and specify conveyors (overland, underground, and plant conveyors), transfer stations, chutes, bins, silos, hoppers, stackers, reclaimers, feeders, crushers, and associated equipment.
• Perform equipment sizing, conveyor calculations, chute flow analysis, material handling studies, and mechanical equipment selection.
• Develop engineering calculations, technical specifications, datasheets, design reports, and scope of work documentation.
• Review and approve detailed engineering drawings, 3D models, layouts, and fabrication documentation.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant international and South African engineering standards and client specifications.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and intermediate engineers and designers.
• Coordinate with civil, structural, electrical, process, and project engineering disciplines.
• Participate in HAZOPs, design reviews, constructability reviews, FATs, and commissioning activities.
• Provide engineering support during procurement, fabrication, construction, installation, and commissioning.
• Interface directly with clients, contractors, suppliers, and project stakeholders.
• Manage engineering deliverables, budgets, schedules, and technical quality.

Minimum Requirements:

• BEng or BSc Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in mechanical engineering with significant exposure to bulk materials handling systems.
• Proven experience delivering projects within the mining, minerals processing, ports, power generation, or heavy industrial sectors.
• Strong knowledge of:
• Belt conveyor systems
• Conveyor drive systems
• Transfer chute design
• Storage and reclaim systems
• Crushers and feeders
• Dust suppression and material flow
• Mechanical equipment selection
• Experience producing engineering calculations, equipment specifications, and technical reports.
• Ability to manage multiple engineering projects simultaneously.
• Strong communication, leadership, and client relationship management skills.
