    Senior Medical Writer I

    Position Summary

    • The Project Director/Chief of Party will be responsible for overall technical leadership, management, and operations of the activity. They will ensure that the project’s goals, objectives, and strategy are achieved and that contractual requirements are met on time and within budget. The COP will take a leadership role in coordination of all activities across all relevant parties, including the funder and partners for the project. They will also oversee all project staff and sub-partners to results-oriented planning, leadership, and coordination of project activities and products.
    • We are seeking candidates from these countries and regions where we currently work.
    • FHI 360 is also pursuing global awards, based in the various countries above. For these positions, the Project Director or Chief of Party may be based in the US but would ideally be in one of the regions where the projects operate.

    Accountabilities:

    • Responsible for creating, promoting, and maintaining safe and equitable work environments for all personnel, including a harassment- and violence-free work culture, and systems for safeguarding project participants.
    • Ensure high-quality, results-oriented technical programming through hands-on guidance and support grounded in the program’s strategic objectives and approved annual workplans and adhering to expected technical quality and reporting requirements.
    • Provide overall management, strategic direction, and leadership to the project to achieve expected project goals and results within budget and timeframe.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact with the funder regarding the day-to-day activity implementation and management matters relating to the agreement.
    • Coordinates and is responsible for the preparation of the annual work plans, budgets, and annual progress reports in a timely fashion for submission to the funder.
    • Ensures high technical standards are used to guide the technical and programmatic aspects of work plans and activities.
    • Plans, directs, and coordinates activities to ensure that goals and objectives are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters.
    • Establishes annual work plans, project teams, and SOPs to meet project goals and ensure compliance with policies.
    • Facilitate ongoing project learning and adaptive management.
    • Ensure that solid relationships are built and maintained between and among FHI 360 and sub-awardee project staff, the funder, and key regional and national stakeholders.
    • Supports performance management and professional development of direct reports, including ongoing feedback, coaching, and career support.

    Education:

    • For bi-lateral awards, Bachelor’s Degree or its International Equivalent in Public Health, Civil Society, Communication and Social Marketing, Economic Development, Education, Climate Sciences, Environment, Gender, Nutrition, Research, Technology and Youth or a Related Fields.
    • For global awards, Master’s Degree or its International Equivalent in Public Health, Civil Society, Communication and Social Marketing, Economic Development, Education, Climate Sciences, Environment, Gender, Nutrition, Research, Technology and Youth or a Related Fields.
    • Project Management (PM) Certification preferred.

    Experience:

    • For bi-lateral awards, typically requires 12+ years of relevant experience with projects management principles and practices (including 8+ years of strategic leadership and/or line management experience).
    • For global awards, typically requires 15+ years of relevant experience with projects management principles and practices (including 10+ years of strategic leadership and/or line management experience).
    • Typically requires a minimum of 5+ years of Chief of Party, Principal Investigator or Project Director experience on government funded sector and/or value chain development projects.
    • Proficient with applicable rules, regulations, and policies associated with international development and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
    • Demonstrated experience in multi-sector project management and implementation.
    • Demonstrated strategic planning, staff development and capacity building experience.
    • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing complex projects that are strategic in nature and national/international in scope. Experience operating in insecure environments.
    • Experience working in a non-governmental organization (NGO).
    • Fluency in local language and knowledge of culture and context preferred.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English required. Fluency in French is also desired.
