Minimum Requirements

• Matric
• Diploma/Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology
• Relevant Qualification Eg: The Oracle Database Administrator Certificate

Knowledge

• Proficient file management techniques, database design, data warehousing concepts, ORACLE, HTML and XML.
• Senior knowledge of system and software quality assurance best practices and methodologies.
• Senior level knowledge of networks and PC operating systems.
• Senior level knowledge of network hardware, protocols and standards.
• Extensive technical and design knowledge
• Good administrative and applicative knowledge
• Knowledge of Windows, Linux and Sun Solaris environments
• Administrator of VERITAS Cluster with Oracle databases

Experience

• 5 to 8 years of proven experience in large ORACLE Database Administration and Maintenance.
• Strong programming skills in ORACLE.
• Experience in ORACLE management & troubleshooting
• Experience in Managing internal and external interfaces
• Experience in project management tools – an advantage
• Knowledge of Windows and Linux/Unix environments
• 3 years experience in the Insurance/Financial industry, preferred
• Knowledge of Oracle Application Server

Professional/Technical

• Proficient in Configuration Management: The control and management of ICT assets (or configuration items) by the use and application of strict change management and recording.
• Proficient in Database Software and Development: Software which enables the user to create, populate and manipulate data structures. Specifically ORACLE and SQL.
• Proficient in Information Retrieval Tools: The application of automated (software) tools which enable selective access to information held within some form of database or "data warehouse".
• Proficient in Operating Systems: "System" software which controls activities such as input, output, dynamic resource allocation, and error reporting, within the operation of a computer configuration.
• Proficient in Corporate, Industry and Professional Standards: Standards associated with structured data management in a large Enterprise origination. Examples: safety standards, departmental programming standards, organisational network performance standards, help desk procedures, corporate quality and change management processes.
• Proficient in Operating Infrastructure: Knowledge of the ICT infrastructure (hardware, databases, operating systems, local area networks etc) used within own organisation.
• Proficient in Software Testing: Testing techniques used to plan and execute software tests of all application components (functional and non-functional) to verify that the software satisfies specified requirements and to detect errors.
• Proficient in Database Modeling and Design Tools: Tools which assist in modeling a logical entity model, and generating a physical database.
• Familiar with Infrastructure Architecture: The frameworks and principles on which networks, systems, equipment and resources are based. Examples: Windows NT, UNIX, Oracle, TDM, ATM, TCP/IP.
• Familiar with Middleware: Software which forms part of the operating platform infrastructure.
• Business & Financial Acumen (includes ability to identify and manage risk)
• Ability to work in an audited environment and adhere to compliance / audit policies
• Ability to deliver simple, clear, scalable and flexible designs
• Ability to resolve design issues and problems with conflicting technical requirements
