    Senior Planner: Raw Material Supply

    Position Purpose:

    This position is responsible for the planning and controlling of raw material requirements for the repair plants across all material codes as well as trading stock requirements for sale and plant spares. The individual will be accountable for maintaining the integrity of the MRP system to ensure appropriate inventory levels at all locations are maintained. The individual will be responsible for calculating and providing inventory requirements to Procurement as well as calculate timber processing requirements for the Weatherboard Sawmill.

    Responsibilities

    • Ensures that production schedules / repair allocations are loaded, updated and reviewed to enable the effective planning of material requirements on a weekly basis.
    • Provides “value added” analysis and insight to Senior Management on material issues.
    • Analyses of all significant activities and processes and proposes and implements cost reduction opportunities.
    • Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of service centre capabilities and constraints relating to specific materials:
    1. Availability of yard space to store
    2. Load handling capability and time constraints (hours of operation)
    3. Damage ratio / element usage
    • Create Reports, Graphs and Spreadsheets to enable other team members to see status of any work at a single view.
    • Monitor the master data set up for all materials, and drive all purchasing requirements via the MRP system to ensure that materials are available in the right place at the right time
    • Responsible to achieve and maintain raw material ‘days of stock’ targets to minimise stock holding, but also ensure availability.
    • Monitor stock holdings at all plants and ensure that no obsolete stock is sitting in the service centres, and that slow-moving stock is moved where relevant
    • Weatherboard Loading Schedule – Plan and draw up a loading schedule for Weatherboard, to ensure effective, accurate and efficient loading of all raw materials being issued from the Mill with on-time delivery into CHEP plants.
    • Calculate and monitor production planning requirements for the Weatherboard Plant as well as manage raw material stock to ensure minimum and maximum stock levels are maintained.
    • Calculate SSA timber raw material requirements to be used for forecasting and budget purposes. Monitor actual vs forecasted volumes and provide detailed analysis of variances.
    • Ad-hoc Projects – Be an active member of allocated Supply Chain projects driving process improvement, cost reduction and customer excellence.
    • Challenges
    • Deals with various inventory materials and service centres as well as a sawmill.
    • Effective communication across all levels and departments to ensure alignment.
    • Deal with fluctuations in production outputs, raw material consumption as well as customer demand and supplier delivery schedule.
    • Working autonomously and having limited direct access to immediate manager
    • Working under pressure – strict deadlines to meet

    Qualifications

    • Business Degree in Supply Chain / Logistics
    • Computer Literacy: MS Office, Excel Advanced, SAP, Business Warehouse,

    Experience

    • Minimum of 5 years in commercial/ Industrial environment/ Inventory Control

    • Knowledge of process improvement techniques.
    • Ability to thrive in time-sensitive environment
    • Excellent analytical skills
    • Detailed knowledge of the principles of planning optimization and Inventory Management techniques.
    • Ability to work effectively in teams of individuals from various business units.
    • Strong planning, prioritisation and organising skills.
    • Presentation skills
