Senior Process Engineer & Capital Manager - Brits at Bayer

Role purpose

• Lead, identify, coordinate and manage continuous improvements projects using lean manufacturing practices and principles as the foundation to ensure sustainability of process improvement implementations.
• Work closely with the production team, Implementation Task Force Team, Process/Team Leads, Seed Techs, Seasonal employees, Continuous Improvement networks and Change Management / HR team ensuring the required processes and procedures are used to drive continuous improvement opportunities to ensure strong focus on customer needs.
• Support production teams with continuous improvement projects focusing on all Lean practices deemed necessary.

Key responsibilities and tasks

• Lead and manage best practices and continuous improvement opportunities, cost reduction and analyse the main variables of the process, proposing actions to the production team in the case of deviation / changes that may cause problems of loss of production / quality / safety / environment.
• Legal appointments as – Act as site GMR (2.1) and Explosion Safety Expert according the OHS act – Equipment safety.
• Be sites responsible Machinery Safety Specialist.
• Support the operation team to develop and review site key performance indicators that provide a clear tracking system on manufacturing performance and drive action.
• Act as an SME (Subject Matter Expert) in lean practices and facilitate the continuous improvement journey at the site.
• Promote discussion among plant representatives on good practices, performance results and new technologies for the production processes.
• Promote operational training when necessary.
• Responsible to represent the site in all applicable Optimization Teams in Regional and Global studies and lead projects aiming exchanging good practices between countries.
• Define and implement training programs to improve technical knowledge level of maintenance and operations staff.
• Drive process improvements related to equipment throughput, capacities, product quality and KPI`s.
• Manage Capital projects through the BaySIM system, from initiation to full completion.
• Responsible to coordinate and manage the necessary governance processes and report on capital project progress on regular basis.
• Develops and administers project budgets, contracts, and quality control provisions; performs project cost estimating and value engineering, as appropriate.
• Provide oversight of processes related to product quality in cooperation with seed production management and other stakeholders including but not limited to the Bayer Global Quality & Compliance Assurance and Control teams.
• Oversees all aspects of the day-to-day management of responsible capital projects; monitors and coordinates work performed by architectural, engineering, and construction firms, as well as institutional, state, and local entities.
• Full understanding and employment of the “Bayer Contractor Guidelines” with contractor selections and any contractor work. This includes project and all local maintenance work.
• Ensure successful startup of all projects by closing all “walk through” lists in a timely manner, coordinate training of personnel, and utilize the MOC (Management of Change Process.)
• Ensure change management requirements are being addressed and coordinate change efforts to implement and sustain improvement implementations.
• Lead and support the applicable (Internal and External) and implemented Quality and Safety management systems broadly and build a culture to maintain a healthy and robust Integrated Management System (IMS).
• HSE RESPONSIBILITIES
• Reducing the risk of accidents and follow HSE procedures.
• Ensure appointed contractors are legal compliant and comply to all Bayer HSE Requirements.
• Check contractor HSE files regularly and keep them up to date.
• Ensure Risk Assessments are done for all tasks assigned to contractors during maintenance and projects.
• Provide necessary HSE training to all contractors and ensure all rules are followed.
• Evaluate all contractors on their HSE performance after projects.
• Be continuously aware of safety and health conditions within the work area.
• Assist in the identification and reporting hazards.
• Take part in investigation of incidents or accidents and provide recommendations to prevent recurrences.
• Ensure contractors and employees are wearing the correct personal protective equipment required for the task.
• Participate in Tier meetings, monthly Health and Safety Meetings and Management Review meetings.
• Maintain a safe and orderly environment.
• Take part in Industrial Hygiene surveys.
• Upon request participate in emergency response teams and any other safety or health group established by the site.
• Participate in all required HSE trainings and educations.
• Be aware of emergency procedures and ensure individuals are designated to provide needed assistance during emergency evacuations.
• Be aware of emergency phone numbers and assist during emergencies.
• Participate in Bayer Safety Initiatives including explosion and machinery Safety Expert.

Experience, Skills and Qualifications

• Industrial or Mechanical Engineer degree.
• Requires at least 5 years of industrial experience/engineering.
• Lean/6Sigma Qualification.
• Knowledge and experience within engineering, project management and administration, risk management, ESH and QA.
• Excellent MS Office software package (Excel, PPT, Word), Access, SAP, Automation, Outlook
• Innovation, Automation and digitalization oriented.
• Good Interpersonal, Communication, Organizational and Training skills.
• Strong teamwork (Flexibility to work across areas and positively influencing others).
• Results orientated with ability to work on own initiative and under pressured timelines.
• Excellent problems solving skills.

• Fluent in English. Any other language proficiency will be very beneficial.
