    Senior Research Specialist

    Job Advert Summary    
    The Science in Society unit of the Impact Centre seeks to appoint a Senior Research Specialist on a permanent contract. The candidate should be an accomplished researcher, with experience in evidence-informed public policy, as well as experience in the one or more areas of research into science in society, including research impact, evidence synthesis, systematic reviews, data analysis and governance, science communication, the public understanding of science, and innovation systems.

    Minimum Requirements    
    Key Requirements:

    • A doctorate in the social sciences
    • At least 5 years’ experience as a senior academic, public official, policy advisor or CSO manager
    • Experience with public policy research and analysis
    • Experience in one of the following research or practice areas of the Impact Centre: evidence synthesis, systematic reviews, data analysis and governance, science communication, the public understanding of science, innovation systems, knowledge management, systems analysis, implementation science, evidence-informed policy and practice
    • Co-authored at least 3 peer-reviewed scientific articles
    • Intellectual and personal integrity, imagination, and drive.
    • A strong user orientation, based on a commitment to social research that makes a difference.
    • The ability and enthusiasm to lead research and practice teams involved in large-scale multidisciplinary projects, to manage team members, and to mentor and train junior researchers; and
    • The versatility to apply quantitative and qualitative methodologies to challenging subject matter across disciplinary boundaries

    Duties & Responsibilities    
    Key Responsibilities:

    • Lead engagement with government, parliamentary, civil society organisations (CSO) and other public interest actors on evidence-informed policy
    • Design, manage and implement evidence synthesis projects for clients and partners in the public sector
    • Support and coordinate evidence teams across the HSRC to provide both long term and rapid response to evidence requests
    • Build and support a community of practice around evidence synthesis and knowledge brokering in the HSRC and with partners
    • Design and implement short learning programmes for public officials and CSOs on evidence synthesis and use
    • Advise and mentor HSRC researchers on evidence synthesis, knowledge translation and policy engagement
    • Develop proposals and secure funding to support evidence activities
    • Deliver high-quality results and reports within budget and deadline.
    • Communicate research findings and publish in peer reviewed journals.
    • Mentor junior researchers
