Senior Research Technician (Plant Tissue Culture): Plant Improvement (Two Years (2) Fixed Term Contract (Nelspruit)
Under guidance of the Researcher, develop and implement protocols for micropropagation of tropical and subtropical crops using in vitro technologies.
Ability to work independently in a plant tissue culture laboratory with knowledge on operation of related equipment.
Preparation of plant tissue culture media.
Undertaking aseptic culturing of plants at the laminar flow bench.
Provide leadership to Research Technicians, Assistants and Students.
Collects, captures and processes data.
Compiles progress reports and submits for approval. Ability to participate in training initiatives and present technical outcomes.
Development and maintenance of research equipment.
Requirements
MSc in Biological/Life/Natural Sciences with specialisation in plant tissue culture and 2 years relevant experience, or BSc. Hons in Biological/Life/Natural Sciences and 8 years relevant experience.
Laboratory experience is essential.
Ability to work independently in a research laboratory.
Occupational Health and Safety compliance in the laboratory.
Registration with a scientific and professional body will be an added advantage.
