Senior Researcher: Environmental Chemist - Eco-toxicology and Passive Wastewater Treatment
Conceptualize and manage R&D projects within the field of Eco-toxicological analysis/assessment of industrial wastewater effluent;
Formulate in-situ methods for monitoring the impact of industrial effluent on water bodies;
Undertake research to come up with low cost and passive wastewater treatment processes to avert the impact of industrial wastewater on water bodies;
Conduct feasibility studies for new technological developments within the area of water resources quality assessment and monitoring;
Liaise with external stakeholders on development of viable solutions for water quality challenges;
Manage project life cycle, scheduling of activities to meet client expectations, balancing competing demands on scope, time, cost and quality;
Develop proposals for different institutions in order to generate appropriate funds to pursue the strategic objectives of the CSIR;
Author and co-author research publication , reports, reviews and summaries;
Ensure development of self and other researchers through coaching, mentoring, work assignment, structured training and appropriate supervision in order to maximize human potential in line with the needs of the organization and the national system of innovation .
Qualifications, Skills And Experience
A Master of science degree or equivalent in Natural Sciences in the following fields: Environmental Chemistry/Chemistry/Biochemistry with a minimum of six years’ experience in the field of wastewater management or water resources quality assessment;
A Doctoral degree will be preferred;
Experience in situational analysis of the wastewater effluent impact on the environment;
Demonstrable research skills, proposal and report-writing and project management skills;
Excellent communication, presentation and writing skills, including the publication of technical outputs;
Ability to work independently as well as in teams;
Computer skills (MS software);
Problem-solving, solution-seeking orientation;
Ability to network and proactively establish and maintain links with internal and external stakeholders and clients as well as the research community;
Must have a valid driver’s licence;
All international qualifications require an evaluation report / certificate issued by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
