    Senior Specialist - Employee Relations - Ngqura

    • Develop, deliver and maintain a business focused employee relations strategy that meets the needs of Transnet National Ports Authority’s (TNPA) stakeholder groups and ensure that the Employee Relations team achieve their objectives and business and work plans.
    • Responsible for creating a fair, respectful, diverse and high-performance employee relations culture in TNPA.
    • Enabling employee relations fraternity to contribute their best in sound employee relations policies, procedures and practices across the Port system.

    Position outputs:

    • Contribute to the strategic development of the People Management (PM) function by developing a progressive, business focused employee relations strategy that meets the current and future needs of the organisation.
    • Responsible for reviewing and updating policies. Ensure TNPA PM policies, systems and processes are current, confirm to employment legislation and where applicable are coherent with other Transnet Operating Divisions (OD) practices.
    • Identify and implement positive employee relations programmes or interventions in consultation with the relevant stakeholders that will lead to a more efficient and motivated workforce.
    • Contribute to the continued improvement of the health of the organisation by monitoring performance indicators, suchas levels of grievances, discipline, disputes and Labour Management engagement  strategies.
    • Develop initiatives and solutions in collaboration with other People Management specialists to enable human resources positive trends.
    • Lead negotiations and consultation with the recognised labour organisations on behalf of TNPA with a view of achieving positive outcomes and broad agreements to proposals which meet the business goals.
    • Develop and implement negotiating strategies and forums the management sound employee relations within TNPA.
    • Lead on the employee relations aspects of proposed changes to the organisational structure, grading, rewards, redeployment, redundancy, and employment contracts which are needed to support the delivery of Transnet National Ports Authority’s business objectives.
    • Provide responsive and high-quality support, training and advice to all parts of the business including Executive
    • Leadership to ensure the appropriate management of all employee relations issues including in particular grievances, poor management, disciplinary action and management of union engagement.
    • Serve as a principal point of liaison with external legal advisors/ private arbitrators, Transnet Bargaining Council and CCMA about company Labour law issues to ensure proper briefing and management of external parties regarding the company’s business and its employment practices.
    • Compile and manage operating budget for the department to ensure compliance to departmental targets and achieve cost containment.
    • Manage subordinates by allocating work, assessing progress, coaching, training and motivate to ensure productiveutilisation of staff and instil performance culture within the department.
    • Work collaboratively with executive and senior leadership to innovate, develop and direct implementation of People Management strategies, policies and programs to ensure the most effective utilisation of Transnet Group people management resources support strategic and operational objectives.
    • Accountable for building best practice People Management framework utilizing corporate strategies, policies and values in partnership with executive and senior management for the assigned client groups.
    • Support the General Manager People Management (PM) and provide strategic interface between PM and other departments to embed a strategic approach to People management and development that results in a more effective frontline delivery.
    • Assess organisational effectiveness from multiple views of impact and either develop or consult on the development of solutions to support business strategy.
    • Managing and lead ER function by maintaining sound employee relations & external customers.
    • Ensure that PM, Labour and Line managers are empowered and capacitated on employee relations processes, policies and practices.
    • Ensure functional E R and Consultative structures in TNPA.

    Qualifications & Experience:

    • Relevant HR degree or LLB or an Advance Labour Law diploma (NQF Level 7) in employee relations or labour law.
    • 10 – 12 years of employee relations experience with a minimum 5 years at Senior Employee Relations Management level;
    • Driver's license code 08 as a minimum.
    • Handling of Labour Law disputes at CCMA, TBC & Labour Court or any other ADR mechanism.
    • Travel as and when required by the business.
