    SHEQ Practitioner – Health and Hygiene

    PURPOSE OF THE JOB 

    To provide a service to Samancor Chrome through the auditing, evaluation, verification, advising and support of the group’s existing Health and Occupational Hygiene Management Systems, to align with and bring about compliance to relevant legislation, codes of practice, recognised best practices, standards, rules and internal policies and thereby bring about alignment to our objective to achieve Zero Harm

    BALANCED SCORECARD PILLARS, ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT AND QUALITY  

    • Identify and assess level of continuous risk exposures in area of responsibility by considering exposures to business, financial, legal issues, people, equipment, material, environment, processes, etc.
    • Consider the level of risk, apply mitigation and implement control measures for residual risk (set objectives, minimum requirements, etc.)
    • Comply with SHEQ requirements (SHEQ Toolbox)
    • Utilise the Integrated Management System (IMS) to initiate, investigate and report SHEQ status us

    PEOPLE 

    • Ensure an enabling climate/culture
    • Coach and counsel people to ensure improved performance levels
    • Identify training needs and advise on aids to improve competence, skill, and ability of S&H Staff

    CUSTOMERS 

    • Ensure Customer Satisfaction through regular audits, contacts, corrections or adjustments and follow up

    BUSINESS PROCESSES 

    • Evaluate Health & Hygiene systems against Samancor Chrome, Legislative and Policy or Standard Operating Procedure and Best Practice requirements and determine the level of compliance and the impact a non-compliance may have on the customer site
    • Advise on compliance in line with expectations Develop systems and learning interventions to support implementation of Health & Hygiene Management System requirements and facilitate Health & Hygiene training courses
    • Conduct internal Health & Hygiene Audits and monitor and report on closure on audit findings
    • Report on the Performance of Site Health & Hygiene Management Systems and make recommendations on findings
    • Facilitate the identification and assessment of Health & Hygiene Risks and update the risk registe
    • Report Health & Hygiene statistics and information
    • Explore Health and Hygiene requirements, evaluate the potential impacts and make mitigation recommendations to the respective site
    • Monitor behaviour in line with expectations
    • Develop earning interventions to support implementation of Safety (H&H) Management System requirements and facilitate H&H training courses
    • Conduct internal H&H Audits and monitor and report closure on Audit findings
    • Report on the Performance of Site Safety (H&H) Management Systems and make recommendations on findings
    • Investigate Safety Significant Incidents and participate in actual level 2 and above Significant Incident Investigations
    • Facilitate the identification and assessment of H&H Risks and update the risk register
    • Report Safety statistics and information

    WORKPLACE COMPETENCIES

    • Microsoft Office programs
    • Samancor Chrome Systems (IMS, EBMS, Chromedoc, SAP, Coupa, MES)

    Knowledge

    • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 (OHSA) (as amended) and the responsibilities of management in terms of the Act and incorporated SANS codes
    • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the Mines Health and Safety Act, (Act 29 of 1996) and its application and incorporated SANS codes
    • Demonstrate knowledge of environmental legislation as it impacts on management of risk
    • Demonstrate an understanding of ISO 14000, 9001, 45001 standards

    Requirements

    Minimum qualifications

    • Degree or National Diploma in Safety Management, occupational Hygiene
    • 4 year relevant experience
