    Sous Chef

    The CSIR ICC is one of the leading convention centres in Africa. It is a 4-star establishment that hosts about 80 000 delegates annually from various leisure events to business meetings.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Ensure that product offerings remain up to date through the creation and implementation of new innovative product menus;
    • Train kitchen staff in the preparation, serving and presentation of the new dishes;
    • Assist the Head Chef in food preparation, production and service;
    • Assist to maintain food costs, safety and hygiene standards;
    • Assist to establish and maintain a healthy working environment in support of good employee relations and cross functional teamwork;
    • Assist in managing and controlling the Centre’s food production operations by providing timeous meals of the right quantity and highest quality.
       

    Qualifications, Skills And Experience

    • A Grade 12 or diploma in professional cookery or similar with at least five years’ experience in a senior position in the kitchen of a similar operation;
    • Knowledge of food safety and hygiene;
    • Knowledge of trends in food preparation and service;
    • Good and creative cooking skills;
    • Organisational skills;
    • People management and training skills;
    • Interpersonal and communication skills;
    • Ability to pay attention to detail;
    • Supervisory skills;
    • Stock management and control
