    Southern Mapping Geospatial Technician

    Southern Mapping, a Woolpert company, is based in Johannesburg, South Africa. Southern Mapping offers extensive high accuracy lidar, imagery and remote sensing experience, as well as airborne topographic, hyper spectral, and thermal survey and mapping. We provide mapping services for engineering, infrastructure, mining, mapping, agriculture and environmental sectors in more than 45 African countries. We believe great companies are built from exceptional people and amazing clients. Because of our growth, we are seeking an experienced Geospatial Technician.

    Woolpert’s ideal Geospatial Technician candidate will have a strong interest and aptitude for working with geospatial data, they will work within a team and will be involved with data acquisition, processing, analysis and production and will be exposed to industry leading technologies, multiple data types and a wide array of processing software and methods, assisting on a large-scale satellite project, using medium to high resolution satellite data and satellite derived elevation data.

    Requirements

    • 2-year Diploma or at least two years of related experience

    • Must have a strong working knowledge of geomatics and mapping concepts (academic and/or professional)

    • Strong Microsoft Suite & ESRI experience

    • Professional experience with ArcGIS Pro highly desired

    • Working with satellite data is highly desired.

    • Standardized mapping experience

    • Willingness to comply with company drug testing policies.

    • Must have a strong working knowledge of geomatics and mapping concepts (academic and/or professional)

    Responsibilities

    • Support other data analysts in editing and classifying geospatial data, including topo-bathy lidar and multibeam sonar datasets.

    • Demonstrate care and attention to detail while working with geospatial and supporting data.

    • Create products from geospatial data in ArcGIS Pro under direction from colleagues and supervisors.

    • Work efficiently to help meet task-oriented project deadlines.

    • Work in environment with measured work productivity.

    Skills

    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

    • Aptitude for quickly learning multiple new geospatial software programs and techniques is a plus.

    • Ability to work well in a dynamic team environment and demonstrate flexibility with assigned tasks and schedules.
