SUPPLY CHAIN: DIVISIONAL HOD

Boxer Superstores, a subsidiary of Pick and Pay, is a large Supermarket Discount chain operating in all provinces throughout South Africa. Key to delivering on our business objectives is an extremely well run Supply Chain operation. We are looking for an experienced, forward thinking and energetic Supply Chain practitioner to join our team to look after our Inland division Supply Chain operation. This position reports directly into the Group Executive: Supply Chain.

Job deliverables

• To assume control and management over the existing DC’s in the inland division (based in
• Gauteng but travel is required to all the DC’s in the division)
• To assume responsibility for delivering any new DC’s that will be opened in the division from concept through to opening and operation
• To advise and assist in the expansion of our cold chain operations

Main job functions

• Assume full responsibility for all the operational and financial performance of the DC’s under your control. This includes, but not limited to:
• Warehousing – including inbound and outbound
• Liaising with Buyers and demand planners to ensure maximum efficiencies
• 3PL providers including transporters
• Costings and finances
• Innovation
• Cold Chain development
• Systems
• Assume full responsibility for all staffing and staff related matters, working closely with the DC
• managers
• Innovations - ensuring best practice at all times
• Safety and Risk matters to be front of mind

Main requirements

• A relevant degree or qualification in Supply Chain
• Extensive supply chain and warehousing experience, the most recent of which must have been at a very senior level; at minimum a DC Manager. Strong knowledge of transport required.
• Overseeing of more than one warehouse or distribution center would be advantageous.
• Experience in very Fast Moving Consumable Goods is a big advantage. This is a very fast- paced operation with very high stock turn levels.
• Extensive knowledge and understanding of a Warehouse Management System (WMS) is a non-negotiable
• Sound financial experience working with costings, profit & loss statements and feasibilities.
• Considerable experience working with or in a cold chain environment
• Experience in the areas of:
• Strategy
• Staff control and motivation
• General computer skills such as Excel
