    Support for ProVeg South Africa

    Role Summary 

    Are you passionate about a plant-based lifestyle? Do you want to use your expertise in communications, events and corporate outreach to spread the plant-based message in South Africa, and make a real difference for animals, our health, society, and the planet? Does the prospect of joining and contributing to a global plant-based organisation excite you? If so, we invite you to apply for one of these positions at ProVeg.

    ProVeg SA is looking for two team members in the area of communications, events, or corporate outreach to help us to get our message to a mainstream audience in SA. We have two support positions (one specifically for Cape Town and a second position for Cape Town or Johannesburg), who will be responsible for expanding our online community, enabling more supporter engagement and, in the next year, start increasing our financial support.

    The candidates will assist with the execution of events, communications strategies and our work with corporates. They work closely with ProVeg International to ensure our messages and projects in SA are aligned with our global vision and mission. 

     

    Possible areas of employment 

    Communications

    • Assisting with creating, adapting, planning, and delivering communications strategies for ProVeg SA.
    • Assisting with the development of an overarching online supporter-focused communication strategy that is effective, impactful, and target-audience-specific:
    • Using the power of stories, visual messages, branding, humour, and articles to reach a diverse audience
    • Coordinating digital, social media and print communications that are tailored to the specificities of the target audience
    • Working together with ProVeg International to manage the content on the ProVeg SA website
    • Maintaining the ProVeg SA blog, as well as generating and finding content
    • Managing the ProVeg SA newsletters
    • Preparing monthly internal reporting on key communications targets and performance, and (if required) ad hoc external reporting to donors, sponsors, and other stakeholders.

     

    Events

    • Assisting with conceptualisation, planning, implementation, and evaluation of events.
    • Assisting with budget planning and monitoring event budgets during the preparation phase.
    • Location scouting.
    • Coordination of other partners and departments such as communication and campaigning in terms of creating flyers, social media campaigns, and website (in the best case, managing website and Facebook account of our events and conferences).
    • Coordination of communications related to volunteers and/or interns.
    • Coordinating travel arrangements for speakers.
    • On-site management (location, speakers, sponsors, guests)
    • Ad hoc event and admin assistance.

     

    Corporate Outreach

    • Assisting with impact-oriented strategies to reduce animal products in the food industry.
    • Assistance with developing and engaging in strategically important relations with companies and manufacturers aiming to reduce animal ingredients and offer more plant-based foods.
    • Build and manage a strong and valuable community amongst the vegan entrepreneurs and vegan community in South Africa.
    • Coordination of other partners and departments such as communication and campaigning in terms of creating flyers, social media campaigns, and website (in the best case, managing website and Facebook account of our events and conferences).
    • Build and manage ProVeg SA’s social media channels and outreach programs.
    • Representing our corporate outreach efforts at conferences and other forums.
    • Ad hoc event and admin assistance.

     

    Competencies:

    Required:

    • Proven experience, with a minimum of 1 year of working in communications, or PR, or events and promotions, or other relevant fields.
    • Fluent in English, with excellent written and verbal communications skills.
    • Self-starter personality, with a curious and creative nature and a drive to continuously improve.
    • Positive communications approach.
    • Experience in working with people from different backgrounds, as well as a strong commitment to equal opportunities.
    • Strong collaboration and excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to thrive in a team and to develop and maintain positive employee relations.
    • Alignment with ProVeg's philosophy and the ability to professionally advocate for ProVeg's vision globally.
    • Drivers license and own vehicle.

    Preferred:

    • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, event management, public relations, journalism, or other relevant fields.
    • A comprehensive understanding of the social media landscape, particularly in regards to veganism in South Africa.
    • Fluent in additional South African languages.
    • Graphic design skills.
    • Previous experience in a non-profit organisation.
    • Experience with a mass email platform (e.g. Mailchimp).
    • Knowledge of SEO-friendly writing.
    • Experience with Google Ads.

    • Hours: 32-40 hours per week
