Oversees the day-to-day maintenance and repair of dangerous goods vehicle and pool cars to ensure safety, reliability, cost efficiency and compliance with company standards, applicable codes and highly regulated industry practices.
Key Accountabilities
Conduct daily toolbox talks, including two maintenance operators in Secunda and Waltloo
Manage a team of Diesel mechanics and service providers (MAN spares storeman tyre service technicians and various other specialized service providers) at three different sites i.e. Alrode, Waltloo and Secunda.
Manage own and team performance, career path, attendance and overtime management.
Ensure correct execution of maintenance strategies as per schedule for the day to ensure optimal alignment between legal compliance and optimized fleet utilisation.
Ensure adherence to work management schedule service providers service level agreement
Support Sasol zero harm and zero noncompliance culture
Conducts quality assurance on team’s workmanship and job cards.
Ensure task observations are conducted regularly in order to ensure compliance of team to company procedures and quality standards
Ensures adherence to MAN self-service agreement terms and conditions.
Ensure each vehicle has an active tracking device, driver monitor and cameras installed
Take part in audits and weekly assurances to implement corrective action and learnings from deviations recommended for system updates.
Formulation, translation and implementation of business specific transportation management solutions.
Align with Business Unit Strategies.
Manage stakeholder relationships through the effective participation of root cause analysis and prompt feedback when incidents occur.
Reduction and elimination of process non conformances.
Continuous improvement of the transportation management processes through analysis of performance, improved integration and collaboration. Use maintenance input and output measure to identify improvement opportunities and implement.
Reduction and elimination of breakdowns.
Identify and implement cost saving initiatives to improve fleet running costs and reliability.
Deal with human resistance to change in own area
Participate in workshop related scope potential deviation analysis (PDA) and risk assessments
Take action on first occurrence performance problems, misconduct, disciplinary and grievance cases
Facilitate effective Communication up and down from management and also within own and other stakeholder teams
Participate in selection of staff by being an active member on recruitment panels
Provide information and assist workshop projects through technical and support functions
Manage and control costs i.e. Budget control'
Ensuring conformance to all safety procedures and implementing risk mitigation.
Perform standby duties
Ensure all Mechanics Safety and technical training is up to date, including medicals
Assist with Safe loading Pass update when fleet inspector is on leave
Track and update vehicle licensing, fire permits, road worthy certificates and meter calibrations
Ensure compliance to legal reguirement related to monthly, yearly, 3 yearly and 6 yearly dangerous goods inspections and tests
Participate in accident claims process
Update fleet maintenance procedures, policies and TRAs
Provide input into fleet maintenance budget.
Provide input into fleet replacement strategy.
