    Techncial Training Manager

    The Role

    We are seeking a Technical Training Manager, based in Johannesburg, working for a Global Automotive and Power Generation organisation. Reporting to the Head of Human Resources, the main responsibility of the Technical Training Manager is to contribute to the optimization of the flow of the Competence Development Process within a technical environment. This role will be responsible for driving the technical driving deliverables for all in the Southern African network. This includes maintaining and securing the right resources to deliver on the competence needs required within the organisation to ensure our business goals and employee needs are met. From gap analysis through to planning, communication and follow-up, this work contributes to building a sustainable organisation where employees have the skills and the expertise to make a valuable and profitable contribution to the business.

    You will need to be a self-starter than can lead the academy fo a superior technical training school. You will be responsible for training technicians, coach and mentoring programmes for the foreman, workshop managers and all other technical fields.

    You will lead a team of 4 trainers and will have to deliver training across Southern Africa (Botswana, Mozambique, Namibia and South Africa)

    Key Responsibilities

    • Ensure that the department works together with other departments to achieve common business objectives
    • Ensure there is a clear structure to define, implement and follow up Competence activities decided in the Business Plan
    • Ensure that there is an organization and necessary resources, competence and facilities to fulfil and uphold set strategies and targets
    • Establish and uphold a meeting structure where competence needs are shared, managed, and information is exchanged
    • Lead, motivate and manage the team to deliver high-quality results
    • Develop a detailed training plan for technical training that is suited to the business
    • Review current training material and adapt to deliver excellent technical training to the business to ensure succession of our technicians and mechanics.
    • Manage the apprenticeship programme that can deliver excellent talent pool of mechanics
    • Coach individuals in the team on a regular basis, tailored to the individual need and focused on improving competence used in the daily work
    • Set KPI:s and individual targets for the team and follow them up on a regular basis
    • Work with Health & Safety to ensure a safe, secure and balanced work environment
    • Identify, consolidate and prioritise short and long term competence development needs, based on current business plans and market strategies, as well as individual development plans in P&D talks
    • Create short and long term action plan
    • Create local learning portfolio considering existing offerings in global/regional catalogue
    • Select (local) suppliers supported by Purchasing
    • Implement the Quality Assurance programme for the Academy
    • Contribute to the internal marketing and communication plan for the Academy and use it to provide timely and relevant information to the business
    • 30% of time delivering training

    Key Requirements

    • Technical experience / Qualified Diesel Technician or related trade
    • A Qualification in Management or related field
    • At least 5 years of experience leading and managing a technical training centre /academy
    • Qualified as a Facilitator, Assessor, and Moderator by the ETDP Seta would be an asset
