    Transition Manager

    About the job
    Purpose:

    The successful candidate will be responsible for developing cost-effective transition strategies as well as executing these strategies timeously. This position requires understanding of risk management techniques to identify portfolio exposures and designing optimal trading strategies across multi-asset classes.

    Responsibilities:

    •       Work with clients, consultants, money managers, custodians to determine transition constraints and develop optimal transition strategies around the constraints.
    •       Act as the project manager to coordinate and implement the strategy developed.
    •       Act as the portfolio manager of the transition portfolio during the transition period including trade and cashflow management as well as manage all corporate actions.
    •       Liaise with the administrator either internal or third-party. 
    •       Create and present detailed pre- and post-trade analysis reports to clients which include liquidity analysis, portfolio risk decomposition, transaction cost analysis, and portfolio performance reporting.
    •       Analyze transition event performance, including a breakdown of performance attributions.
    •       Research trade execution costs associated with various trading strategies and implement the most cost-effective strategy.
    •       Complete post-trade reports and deliver results to the client in a timely manner.
    •       An obligation to pursue a fiduciary duty of best execution and service offering at all times and to all clients
    •       Assists in general administrative activity of onboarding of clients
    •       Assist and execute fixed income orders on an agency execution basis
    •       Ensures all trades are booked to front office position keeping system on the day they are executed
    •       Ensures client general satisfaction and proactively seeks business with existing accounts 
    •       Understand key competitors, global trends, industry dynamics and key macro environmental forces to analyse and identify transition opportunities and threats. This includes establishing continuous environmental scanning models to understand and apply visible hidden and opportunity costs optimally
    •       Understand and stay close to the requirements of transition client groups to ensure solution relevance. Minimise total costs and risks to the client during the transition
    •       Ensure that client requirements and sales mandates are delivered with a sense of urgency. Act as single point of contact for transition client
    •       Manage transition projects and ensure cross-functional process efficiency by co-ordinating systems, resources and processes
    •       Establish project management tools and ways of working for each transition, including establishment of transition timelines, required project governance and project reporting
    •       Work closely with internal stakeholders eg. Trading, Operations, Compliance, Legal and Risk to ensure seamless transition
    •       Manage the trading out of residual portfolio exposures and transfer of positions by controlling important risks, ensuring timely trades and monitoring pre- and post-trade costs
    •       Understand dynamics in the market and apply this knowledge to identify and monitor transition exposures
    •       Display a workable knowledge of relevant systems and interdependencies between these systems
    •       Build pricing models that are integrated and relevant in order to ensure the protection of fund values
    •       Apply multi-dimensional “what-if” scenarios to determine optimal trade paths

    Qualifications and Experience:

    •       Required Qualification: Degree ( BSc. BCom)
    •       Preferred Qualification: Degree (Mathematical, Economic, Statistical field)
    •       Other eg. Professional Registrations: Relevant FAIS exams and CFA (advantageous)

     

    Technical Knowledge/ skills and experience

    In depth knowledge of:

    •       Global and financial markets
    •       Global Market products
    •       Project Management skills
    •       Knowledge of capital markets and portfolio management strategies.
    •       Knowledge of trading costs and settlement and clearing practices across all domestic asset classes

     

    Experience:

    •       Market reputation
    •       Three to five years’ experience in the investment industry in portfolio management, capital markets, or servicing managers and brokers desired.
    •       Portfolio management experience in a Fund-of-fund or multi-manager setting a plus
