    Facilities Officer: Asset Management (Onderstepoort)

    Description

    • Monitor and review the capturing of all physical (moveable and immoveable) assets in the physical asset management registers.
    • Monitor and review the allocation of assets to asset holders 
    • Oversee and review the monitoring of assets in accordance with the relevant policy and procedures.
    • Promote correct implementation of sound asset management practices. 
    • Supervise employees to ensure sound physical asset management.
    • Manage the asset team and compliance thereof with respect to acquisition, operations, verification, and disposal processes.
    • Assist in sourcing & allocation of the required resources to complete asset management, e.g., Offices, Equipment, etc.

    Requirements

    • B Com Degree in Finance or a related field.
    • 3 years of asset management supervisory experience.
    • Professional membership in the Finance field will be an added advantage.
    • MS Excel competence in consolidating and working with pivot tables.
    • Reporting capability.
    • A valid South African driver's license.

    Specialist Researcher Plant Breeding (Roodeplaat)

    Description

    • Strategic planning and positioning of research programme in Plant Breeding, nationally and internationally.
    • Providing scientific leadership in research, development and innovation in the field of Plant Breeding of seed, fruit and leafy vegetable crops in multi-disciplinary teams.
    • Managing all technology transfer initiatives of the multidisciplinary team across the commodities, leading the generation and commercialization of Intellectual Property.
    • Human Capacity Development that includes outputs of mentoring and developing others (internal staff) and developing self. 
    • Safety, health, and environment.
    • Scientific Status of the Research environment. 

    Requirements

    • PhD or DSc in Plant Breeding, Biotechnology or related discipline.
    • More than 8 years post PhD experience and/or 8 years of relevant experience on a similar level.
    • Proven track record of research management in at least one of the Crop Protection related areas, with working knowledge of the other areas in Crop Protection. 
    • Minimum 25 peer reviewed publications. Meets peer norm requirements for specific field of expertise, with a minimum (on average) of three peer-reviewed publications per year. Minimum 25 peer reviewed publications at date of appointment.
    • Proven track record for generating external income for research programme and projects in programme.
    • Proven record of accomplishment of being an invited international speaker or being involved/invited as participant in international events of high importance.
    • Proven track record of building national and international partnerships and networks.
    • Proven track record of strategic and operational planning skills and expertise.
    • Proven track record of mentoring and supervising/supervising MSc and PhD students.
    • NRF rating of at least C1 will be an added advantage.
    • Registration with a scientific and professional body will be an added advantage.
    • Proven recognition as a research leader on a national and international level.
    • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel.

    Description

    Project Management & Coordination

    The Researcher is responsible for conducting research projects across the Institute; these include the following aspects of the projects:

    • Research planning and initiation. 
    • Equipment and Research Materials.  
    • Project Human Resources.  
    • Project Finances.  
    • Risk Management and Mitigation.  
    • Monitoring, Evaluation, reporting and project close out.

    Research, Development, and Innovation

    The Researcher is responsible for conducting research, development and supporting innovation These include supporting the following research aspects:

    • Invention.  
    • Translation.  
    • Commercialization.  
    • Adoption and Use. 

    Research Collaboration
    The Researcher is responsible for supporting strategic research collaboration and collaboration opportunities these include:

    • Strategic Research partnerships / networks / collaborators.  
    • Intra-Inter Institutional Collaboration & Partnerships. 

    Human Capacity Building

    The Researcher is responsible for supporting Human Capacity Development that includes support of 

    • Project staff and students.  
    • Self

    Requirements

    • PhD in Entomology, Nematology, Crop Protection, or a closely related discipline.
    • Minimum of three (3) years post-MSc research experience in pest control of crops.
    • Authored or co-authored 3 to 5 peer-reviewed publications relevant to the field.
    • Demonstrated ability to secure external funding for research projects.
    • Experience in pests of vegetable or industrial crops will be an added advantage.
    • Registration with a recognized scientific or professional body is desirable.
    • NRF rating will be considered a strong advantage.
    • Valid driver’s license.
