Domain / Product owner - HR systems

    Purpose of the role

    • We are looking for a dynamic, experienced hands on domain lead for HR systems.  You will both contribute to the direction for the HR domain and personally deliver on it.
    • You are the subject matter expert and primary driver of everything HR systems-related – setting the roadmap, shaping the processes, and doing the hands-on work to bring improvements to life. You will work closely with an HR Process and Systems Analyst, collaborating day-to-day to analyse, design, and implement solutions.

    Responsibilities

    • Define and maintain the HR domain roadmap, prioritising initiatives that improve employee experience and efficiencies across all markets.
    • Act as the subject matter expert for HR systems, roadmap and overall system and process landscape.
    • Identify gaps and opportunities in current HR systems and processes, and build a prioritised plan to address them.
    • Direct and prioritise the analysis work of the HR Process and Systems Analyst to analyse current-state processes, design future-state solutions, and translate requirements into actionable deliverables.
    • Personally own and drive the configuration, improvement, and day-to-day integrity of Unifi’s HR technology stack
    • Manage system changes end-to-end: from requirements definition and solution design through to testing, roll-out, and user adoption.
    • Manage vendor relationships and system configurations for HR software platforms, escalating and resolving issues hands-on.
    • Collaborate with all in-country teams to ensure solutions are fit for purpose and are making life easy.
    • Work with the HR Process and Systems Analyst and the data team to produce dashboards
    • Use data insights to identify trends and proactively implement system or process improvements
    • Champion and implement employee self-service capabilities, reducing administrative burden on HR teams and improving the staff experience.
    • Accountable for audit trails, data privacy controls, and role-based access management across all HR platforms.
    • Own the adoption and training strategy for every HR system or process change, ensuring changes are successfully implemented and embedded across Unifi.
    • Define adoption success criteria before go-live and track adoption metrics per country after roll-out; intervene where uptake is low.
    • Build and maintain a network of in-country super-users/champions in each market to support local roll-outs.
    • Oversee the development of training materials and user guides (produced with the Business Process Analyst), localised where needed for each country.
    • Ensure HR teams and end-users in every country are trained before any change goes live; no roll-out is complete until adoption is verified.
    • Run post-implementation adoption reviews per country and feed findings back into the roadmap.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
    • 6–8 years of professional experience, with at least 3 years in an HR systems, HRIS, or product/owner role – ideally within a lean, hands-on environment.
    • Proven experience personally owning or implementing core HR systems such as payroll, HRIS, ATS, or performance management platforms (not just overseeing others doing it).
    • Strong working knowledge of HR processes across the full employee lifecycle: hire to retire.
    • Comfortable operating as both a strategic thinker and a hands-on executor – you are equally at home defining a roadmap and configuring a system on the same day.
    • Solid analytical skills – experience with SQL or BI tools for HR reporting is advantageous.
    • Experience working closely with process or systems analysts; able to collaborate effectively without direct reporting lines.
    • Strong documentation skills: able to write clear requirements documents, process maps, and user stories.
    • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to bridge HR and technical teams.
    • High attention to detail and a meticulous approach to data quality, compliance, and process accuracy.
    • Passion for building systems that make life easier for people while creating and exceptional user experience
    • Proven experience driving adoption and training of system or process changes across multi-country operations
    • Willingness to travel across the Africa as required
