    Fire Station Officer: Operations

    Reference Number: K31/2025
    Job Requirements:

    • Grade 12 with a three-year Higher Diploma in Fire Technology
    • Fire Fighter I and II
    • Officer-level qualification (e.g., Fire Officer I / Fire Services Management Certificate)
    • Valid Code C1 driver’s license with a Professional Driving Permit (PDP)
    • Minimum of 7 years of operational experience in a fire and rescue environment, including at least 3 years in a supervisory role
    • Good knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g., Fire Brigade Services Act, Disaster Management Act, and the
    • Occupational Health and Safety Act)
    • Physically and mentally fit to perform emergency duties
    • Willing to work shifts, weekends, public holidays, and be available for standby duty
    • Computer literacy

    Key Performance Areas:

    • Supervise the operational readiness of the fire station and all resources
    • Lead teams during fires, rescue operations, and hazardous materials incidents
    • Conduct shift meetings, plan tasks, and ensure proper shift handovers
    • Inspect vehicles, equipment, and personal protective gear (PPE)
    • Complete and verify operational reports, incident documentation, and station logbooks
    • Provide in-service training and develop junior firefighters
    • Enforce all applicable legislation, policies, and procedures
    • Serve as incident commander when necessary
    • Participate in community awareness campaigns on fire safety
    • Work according to municipal standards and comply with performance management systems

    Salary Scale:
    R 506,328 – R 545,616 per annum

    Streetlight Operator

    Job Requirements:

    • At least Grade 9
    • Minimum of 1–2 years’ relevant experience in the maintenance of streetlight and high mast lighting systems
    • Valid Code C1 driver’s license with a Professional Driving Permit (PDP)
    • Must be physically fit and not afraid of heights
    • Ability to read and write (basic literacy and numeracy skills)
    • Willingness to work after hours, on weekends, and during emergencies, as required

    Key Performance Areas:

    • Maintain, repair, and install streetlights, high mast lights, and traffic signals
    • Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on public lighting infrastructure
    • Respond to complaints and service requests regarding public lighting
    • Ensure safe use and maintenance of tools and equipment
    • Comply at all times with occupational health and safety requirements
    • Maintain lighting systems at Council premises and public facilities
    • Perform basic administrative duties, including reporting and fault logging
    • Work under limited supervision while adhering to municipal standards and procedures

    Salary Scale:
    R 245,196 – R 280,356 per annum.

    • Diploma/Degree in Risk Management or other relevant qualifications in Internal Auditing
    • Certificate in MFMP / CPMD (NQF Level 6)
    • Valid driver’s license

    • Maintain and regularly update the Business Continuity Plan
    • Identify gaps and deviations and provide actionable recommendations to management
    • Review the Financial Year-End Statements, Annual Reports, and Annual Performance Report

    Salary Scale:
    R 415,464 – R 493,968 per annum

    Learner Firefighter (x4)
