We are recruiting on behalf of one of our clients in the mining industry for a Boilermaker Assistant to join their operations based in Mooinooi, North West.
The successful candidate will assist qualified Boilermakers with the maintenance, fabrication, installation and repair of underground mining equipment and infrastructure within a chrome mining environment.
The ideal candidate will have previous mining experience, a strong work ethic and a commitment to maintaining high safety standards underground.
Minimum Requirements
Grade 12 (Matric).
Minimum of 1–2 years' experience as a Boilermaker Assistant within the mining industry.
Previous underground mining experience will be advantageous.
Basic knowledge of welding, fabrication and mechanical repairs.
Experience assisting with maintenance of mining equipment and steel structures.
Valid Medical Certificate of Fitness for underground work.
Basic understanding of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA).
Ability to work shifts and overtime when required.
Physically fit and capable of working in underground mining conditions.
Roles and Responsibilities
Assist qualified Boilermakers with the maintenance, repair and fabrication of underground mining equipment and infrastructure.
Prepare materials, tools and equipment required for fabrication and maintenance activities.
Assist with welding, cutting, grinding and fitting of steel components under supervision.
Support the installation and repair of conveyors, pipes, chutes, pumps and underground steel structures.
Perform routine inspections and report defects, wear or damage to the Boilermaker or Supervisor.
Assist with planned preventative maintenance, breakdown repairs and shutdown activities.
Maintain good housekeeping standards in workshops and underground work areas.
Ensure tools, equipment and work areas are clean, safe and properly maintained.
Comply with all Mine Health and Safety regulations, company policies and safe working procedures.
Participate in toolbox talks, risk assessments and safety inspections.
Complete basic maintenance records and report any hazards or unsafe conditions.
Carry out any additional duties assigned by the Boilermaker or Supervisor.
