    Head: Motor Claims

    What will you do?
    The Santam Commercial and Personal Business Claims Division has a position available for a head of Motor Claims at a senior management level. The position reports to the Head Claims: Commercial and Personal. The overall purpose of the role is to provide strategic and operational direction to optimise and manage the end-to-end motor claims value chain within the Santam Commercial and Personal Claims division.

    The role will further have the purpose of translating the Santam C&P business and Claims strategy and business objectives into strategies, projects and business processes for the Motor Claims end to end.

    The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key areas -:

    • Leads the strategy development for motor claims from First Notice of Loss through to settlement and salvage recovery. 
    • Lead and manage multiple processing channels within the entire motor claims business unit. These areas include: Sedan and Light Delivery Vehicle Claims, Centres of Excellence Claims, Heavy Commercial, Motorcycles, Light trailers & Caravans, Watercraft.
    • Lead a management team with a large motor claims employee compliment as well as manage the service delivery and partnering with motor claims service providers.
    • Managing service levels within the motor claims environment and ensures corrective action is taken across the value chain to ensure service excellence.
    • Ensures complete and sound claim settlements, accordance with company policies and procedures.
    • Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. 
    • Manage and ensures control of all motor claims handling expenses.
    • Resolve escalated issues arising from motor claims operations by channelling the matter through the relevant processing channels and support department and ensuring the co-ordination of the resolution. 
    • Develops procedures and policies to enhance and improve the validation, assessing, and settlement of claims. 
    • Actively participates as a member of the C&P Claims Management Committee.
    • Direct the technology roadmap within the motor claims environment.
    • Drives and delivers against tight deadlines whilst ensuring that all motor claims received are flawlessly assessed, evaluated and investigated within defined delivery targets and measures.
    • Works closely with motor claims managers to ensure estimates reserved are correct and reviewed regularly, large movements are reported and that files are complete at settlement.  
    • Ensures claims are paid in accordance with policy cover. 
    • Overall responsibility to pro-actively manage risk in the motor claims business unit by ensuring control measures are put in place to manage associated risk. 
    • Manages the performance and efficiency of direct reports and ensures recommendations and decisions taken on technical functions are within the operating mandate.  

    What will make you successful in this role?
    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    • Bachelor Degree in Industrial Engineering or related , and or Accounting
    • MBA will be a plus
    • Minimum 10 years’ experience in the motor vehicle aftermarket or financial services industry is essential. Extensive experience with business partner and service provider relationships and engagement
    • Minimum 10 years of which is experience at a management level with a proven track record of not only successful people leadership but also a proven track record in managing process improvements and reducing expenses.

    Java Developer (Intermediate)

    What will you do?
    Santam Ltd is looking for a Developer, who will be based in Bellville. The incumbent will be responsible for development, testing, maintaining, and supporting software that meets business requirements on the commercial underwriting and claims applications.

    Responsibility of the incumbent:

    • Adheres to defined software development lifecycle and best practice (including code standards, code reviews, source control, etc.)
    • Configure and develop full stack applications that meet business requirements (UI, business logic, rules, process flow, etc.)
    • Build webservices to integrate systems.
    • Generate test data to ensure developed software works according to requirements.
    • Attention to non-functional requirements during software development (performance, load, response, etc.)
    • Prepare and produce release documents for software migration to production.
    • Support and maintain developed applications and services.

    Underwriting Audit Specialist

    What will you do?

    A position of Underwriting Audit Specialist exists in Santam Corporate Services to be based in Alice Lane Sandton, Gauteng. The purpose of the role of the audit specialist is to a play a significant role in delivering on the internal audit charter and improving the governance, risk management and control in the Santam Group. This role will therefore form part of the specialist underwriting assurance team within Group Internal Audit and will be responsible for specific underwriting and reinsurance related assurance work in Santam Limited, MiWay, Centriq, SSI and Sanlam Pan Africa.

    What will make you successful in this role?

    • Perform objective audit reviews within the underwriting and reinsurance processes at Santam Ltd, its subsidiaries, portfolio managers and underwriting agencies;
    • Assist with audit planning in terms of assignment objectives and scope of work; 
    • Responsible for audit execution, reporting in an effective and timely manner and follow-up processes; 
    • Advise on practical recommendations;
    • Follow up on audit issues raised and provide input into the reports to the Santam Audit & Risk committee and other governance structures as required;

    Qualification, Knowledge and Experience

    • Short Term Insurance certification or degree
    • 5 to 7 years short term insurance knowledge, specifically in corporate and commercial insurance and reinsurance;
    • Working knowledge and understanding of reinsurance treaty and facultative processes and accounting; 
    • Understanding of an outsourced business model; and
    • Experience in performing underwriting and reinsurance reviews would be advantageous.

    Actuarial Assurance Specialist

    What will you do?

    • Perform reviews as required by the Prudential Authority, including regulatory reviews of the Groups solvency, liquidity, insurance, market, credit, and concentration risks;
    • Assist with audit planning in terms of assignment objectives and scope of work
    • Responsible for audit execution, prepare audit findings, reporting and providing practical recommendations;
    • Engage with various levels of senior management to support the achievement of the Santam group strategic and financial objectives;
    • Follow up on audit issues raised and provide input into the reports to the Santam Audit & Risk committee and other governance structures as required;
    • Maintain quality standards in terms of the audit methodology, approach and documentation of work performed; and
    • Building relations with partners and various key stakeholders.

    Qualification, Knowledge and Experience

    • Related B Degree specializing in actuary (nearly qualified actuary or qualified);
    • 3+ years actuarial experience in short term insurance;
    • Knowledge of SAM and the ORSA process;
    • Working knowledge of balance sheet management, capital management, and investment risks;
    • Working knowledge of IFRS17 and developments around the new standard;
    • Working knowledge of regulatory and governance standards; and 
    • Experience in an assurance function (advantageous but not required).
