    Procurement Officer

    Overview of Duties

    Procurement Administration;

    • Demonstrates a working understanding of policies, procedures and systems in place at AHRI, and applies them as appropriate in their current role.
    • Responsible for providing cost effective sourcing solutions that ensure product quality, specification and to ensure that cost savings are achieved.
    • Request quotes from suppliers on behalf of users.
    • Compares quotes from prospective suppliers and evaluates the quality and suitability of suppliers. Investigate alternatives where necessary.
    • Provide appropriate purchasing support to internal and external customers.
    • Update various procurement reports/processes such as outstanding purchase orders or maintenance of supplier database, as requested by the line manager.
    • Ensures that the order complies with the user’s specifications.
    • comply with order specifications.
    • Facilitate the approval of orders by the cost centre owner.
    • Capture orders on the SAP / ERP system.
    • Expediting and follow up on overdue orders with suppliers and keeps the user informed on progress.
    • Performs buyer functions and issue purchase orders to suppliers whenever the buyer is on leave.
    • Assist requestors with capturing/completion of imports and exports documents.

    Financial Administration

    • Demonstrates a good working knowledge and understanding of the use of SAP in their daily activities.
    • Prepare and capture data on the ERP system as requested by line manager.
    • Ensure that invoices/delivery notes are forwarded to finance daily for payment.
    • Supports Finance with request for invoices where invoices are not presented on delivery where required.
    • Assist with cost centre delegation of authority authorisation form when necessary.

    General Administration;

    • Administration and capturing of procurement data.
    • Provide relevant information/reports to auditors as requested.
    • Data collection of supplier documents and submit to the buyer for checking.
    • Perform other related administrative services as required by line manager.

    Requirements

    Minimum Qualifications;

    • 3 years National Diploma or Degree in Supply Chain /Purchasing or similar in a related field.

    Minimum Experience;

    • 3 years or more experience in procurement administration.
    • Experience in international procurement and logistics.
    • Microsoft Excel, Word to skills/experience required.
    • ERP experience.

    Skills Required;

    • Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
    • Accuracy and precision.
    • High computer literacy.
    • Report writing.

    Postdoctoral Epidemiologist/Biostatistician/Geographer

    Description:

    This two-year postdoctoral position in Professor Tanser and Professor Mwambi’s research group is embedded in a recently awarded National Institute Health R01 grant. The project seeks to develop the next-generation HIV-prevention strategies for poor rural communities in sub-Saharan Africa. The project will:

    •  Quantify the shifts in the spatial, temporal and demographic burden of HIV incidence and underlying viral load patterns in a full population cohort in rural South Africa;
    • Harness the changes in the dynamics of the HIV epidemic to design future intervention programs which will maximize HIV incidence reduction based on the dynamic needs of the most vulnerable sub-populations.
    • The successful candidate will have access to one of the largest ongoing population-based HIV cohorts in the world - the Africa Health Research Institute’s population cohort in rural KwaZulu-Natal, which includes over 90,000 individuals, with individual-level sociodemographic, biological, and clinical record data as well as comprehensive genomics data.
    • Successful candidate will receive a generous tax-free stipend.
    • Once appointed, the successful candidates will be supported to apply for externally funded personal fellowships and grants and develop collaborations/skills for their career development.
    • They will receive mentorship from leading scientists and faculty members in AHRI, who commonly publish in some of the top journals in the field (Science, Nature and Lancet).

    Requirements:

    • The minimum qualifications and experience required for these research posts are:
    •   PhD in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Econometrics, Mathematical Modelling, Spatial Analytics or a closely related quantitative field
    •   Several high-quality publications as a first author
    •    Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team
    •    Excellent written and oral communication skills
    •    Good interpersonal skills and team orientated

    M&E Officer (District)

    Overview of duties:

    • Work with KZN district management to identify data needs and areas for M&E support at district/ sub-district/facility levels
    • Support data collection and data validation activities at district, sub-district and facility levels – including technical support and mentoring.
    • Conduct data verification of project specific indicators, including detailed checking of reported data against source documents, to ensure that captured data is captured is accurate and valid
    • Support the district/ sub district and facilities in setting targets to reduce data capturing and reporting errors.
    • Disseminate findings/results to the program teams during sub district nerve centre meetings, to support evidence-based decision making related to activities and focus areas
    • Participate in the development of the grant's implementation plan, data collection tools and the tracking of progress against set targets
    • Support the provincial M&E Specialist to collate data for timely reporting on grant activities
    • Collaborate with district M&E staff on M&E activities in order to ensure effective communication and to further the goal of improving data use
    • Participate in project and department of health meetings and provide feedback to stakeholders as required
    • Participate in district, sub district MERL meetings, workshops and discussions to provide ongoing technical support
    • Apply effective self-management and performance ownership.

    Requirements:

    • 1. Relevant Health or Allied Health or Social Science Qualification(s) from a recognised tertiary institution
    • 2. 3 years or more experience working in a monitoring and evaluation/ data or information management or reporting role in a healthcare setting in KZN
    • 3. Detailed understanding of the health information systems and reporting platforms in use in KZN Department of Health 
    • 4. Sound experience in monitoring and evaluation 
    • 5. Must possess a valid South African Code B Driver’s License
