    Scraper Winch Operator

    Job Description:

    • Effective panel cleaning and support

    Protection Services Supt Operations

    Job Description:

    • Investigation support and emergency protection duties will be part of the activities of this role Personal risk is a factor in the role due to Bullion / Cash transport duties, (if applicable), criminal investigations, armed response. VIP escorts and Counter Industrial Action situations. The time frame for measuring the work outputs from this role is normally between 3 months and one year.

    Senior Process Engineer

    Job Description:
    Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

    • To ensure that all designs incorporate the appropriate safety standards and that all activities comply with plant group and/or statutory procedures
    • A thorough understanding of the processes operating within the system under study and may require the search for or the development of standards, where the process is new and not covered by existing procedures. The commissioning of new and unfamiliar plants requires detailed study to predict and pre-empt safety hazards.
    • To investigate as directed, problem areas/opportunities, the solutions of  which shall be beneficial to the group to motivate the identified solution.
    • The clues to the solutions to a problem are, typically, numerous and are often only indirectly associated with the apparent effects. Alternative solutions can be varied and as they are normally part of a complex, interactive system, detailed evaluation of the effects, which may extend outside the immediate area of investigation i.e... what may be an obvious solution to a problem seen in isolation at a concentrator could produce unacceptable spin-off effects at the smelter or refineries. The Senior Process Engineer would be expected to under the direction of a superior investigate such alternatives
    • Technically conversant with all aspects of a problem/solution; to supervise and/or co-ordinate technical investigations by internal parties.
    • To undertake the process design of approved projects (extensions, modifications or new processes) in accordance with the appropriate standards and practices, so as to ensure the cost effective attainment of objective.
    • To liaise with other engineering functions during the design and implementation cycle in order to provide information and to ensure that process objectives are met.
    • During the execution phase of a project the Senior Process Engineer will be a member of a multi-discipline project team. A number of the disciplines depend on the input of process information during the design an execution phase to work efficiently in order to carry out their own functions effectively. The Senior Process Engineer must have the ability to work efficiently when interfacing with a number of different functions.
    • To prepare comprehensive commissioning plans/procedures and to commission and optimise the modifications/installations in accordance with the agreed targets.
    • Efficient commissioning plans need to be prepared in consultation with the direct superior of the Senior Process Engineer in order to pre-empt problems and maintain a project on target.
    • This role is at a Band 6 level reporting to the Manager Technical Processing

    Qualifications:

    • Honours degree in Chemical / Metallurgical Engineering, Extraction Metallurgy or Mineral Processing

    Experience

    • Production or technical experience in an operational metallurgical or chemical plant.
    • 5 to 10 years working experience will be advantageous
    • Experience of formal project management, process design and /or commissioning in a projects environment advantageous
    • General familiarity with metallurgical flow sheeting, mass and energy balance and the basics of unit processes. Some experience with control system would also be advantageous. The candidate should be able to demonstrate a sound technical aptitude for analytical problem solving and the ability to use lateral thinking. In addition to the basic competencies the candidate should be able to develop P&ID control logic, prepare data sheets, specifications and commissioning plans.
    • Experience in Smelting operation will be advantageous.

    Knowledge and Skills

    • A thorough knowledge of the relevant standards and codes of practice is requires, plus an ability to assemble a flow sheet that meets the project objectives. Each level of design will normally present several options the merits and demerit of which have to evaluated, and the whole assembled into a viable system and detailed for action by other disciplines.

    • Hold personnel accountable for following the Operating Model procedures.
    • Give feedback on execution performance and provide coaching and development to personnel.

    Weekly Tasks:

    • Address compliance, reconciliation, and deviations in the weekly schedule.
    • Sign off on work orders and return them to planners for closure.
    • Hand over work orders to the supervisor using the operating model procedure.
    • Review the draft weekly schedule.
    • Attend the formal weekly schedule review meeting to finalise the execution schedule.
    • Forward all risks and deviations to the risk owner and sign off on them.
    • Monitor work order cost control in task status reports.
    • Review work order planning and input.
    • Ensure that the section safety strategy is attached to all work orders.

    Monthly Tasks:

    • Ensure Pre-Planning is completed within the Operating Model Procedure.
    • Ensure all safety & health related incidents and outstanding actions are addressed in pre-planning,
    • Ensure all instructions regarding services, quality, environment, and safety are documented in the preplanning,
    • Ensure all managerial instructions are documented in the pre-planning,
    • Contractors Meeting (FLM to have a meeting with contractors working in his section),
    • Support standards committee procedures and standards revision

    Review:

    • Review previous KPI (Safety Inc. & Acc, output compliance, services compliance, schedule compliance).
    • Review Routine Operating Schedule compliance.
    • Review month-end cost expenditure.
    • Review high-risk tasks and actions.
    • Review Maintenance Strategy.
    • The Work: Key Outputs and Accountabilities
    • Compare monthly measured and scheduled compliance and pinpoint necessary actions to enhance the quality.
    • Budget Management and Cost Control
    • Compile own budget and manage the section's expenditure within the approved budget to ensure effective cost control and savings.
    • Manage overtime within required limits and achieve savings in this regard.
    • This role is in the Engineering & Maintenance (ENG) department at a Band 6.10 level reporting to the Section Engineer

    Qualifications:

    • Grade 12 / N3 Technical
    • National Engineering Diploma (NQF6)/ Nated N6
    • SA Drivers Licence

    Technical Knowledge

    • 5 Years’ operational experience in maintenance.
    • Technical expertise in HME/Opencast/Plant or Processing within the mining industry.
    • Experience in a supervisory or managerial role overseeing engineering/plant/maintenance operations.
    • Knowledge of engineering processes and best practices.
