    Plennegy Research: Laboratory Technician (Biotechnology) - Kempton Park

    Description

    • A role for a Laboratory Technician has become available in our Biotechnology Laboratory. The purpose of this role is to aid and undertake routine laboratory, glasshouse and tunnel tasks in the Research Laboratories in support of all researchers and breeders.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Discuss project needs and deadlines with Lab Manager and other departments as per submitted samples.
    • Plan, supervise and assist lab colleagues to prep samples as required.
    • Planning and scheduling of experiments to meet set deadlines (including ad hoc projects).
    • Execute testing as per project needs to meet set deadlines.
    • Interpretation and reporting on projects executed.
    • Updating of laboratory journal daily.
    • Troubleshooting any problems that may occur during the execution of projects.
    • Operating of laboratory machinery and instruments.
    • Ensuring laboratory equipment is in good working order at all times.
    • Logging and reporting of laboratory instrument-related faults.
    • Keep updated with new protocols/ techniques that could be applicable to the Plennegy research laboratory.
    • Research into new applications (protocols and methods) of techniques, pertaining to the seed industry.
    • Assist with method development and implementation.
    • Responsible for general housekeeping in the laboratory.

    Requirements
    REQUIREMENTS:

    • BSc / Diploma in Biotechnology
    • Laboratory technique knowledge and Excel required
    • 1 year graduate/intern experience

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Agronomy Practices:

    • Develop and implement advanced agronomic practices for optimal soil health, crop growth, and yield.
    • Plan and execute the application of weedicides, insecticides, and fungicides to ensure effective pest and disease management.
    • Collaborate with suppliers to source high-quality agrochemicals and monitor their application processes.
    • Monitor and evaluate the impact of agronomic interventions, making adjustments as necessary.

    Technology Sourcing and Implementation:

    • Identify and evaluate emerging precision farming technologies suitable for our operations.
    • Work closely with our sister company to gather and share relevant information on precision farming practices.
    • Lead the integration of selected technologies into our farming processes, ensuring smooth implementation and training.

    Cross-Functional Support:

    • Provide expertise and guidance to managers across various departments to optimize production practices.
    • Collaborate with research and development teams to incorporate scientific advancements into practical farming strategies.
    • Conduct training sessions and workshops to enhance the understanding of precision agronomy among team members.

    Administration

    • Submit reports monthly on projects
    • Presentations to higher management when required
    • Submit purchase orders and any other administrative requirements timeously.

    Description

    • A role has become available for a Junior Buyer. The purpose of this role is to plan and purchase stock requirements in line with budgeted sales forecasts at the best price, terms and in line with quality specifications for delivery where and when required in order to ensure continuity of supply and to determine and capture accurate costs for all products in the portfolio.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Plan requirements and purchases in line with budgeted forecasts and sales history.
    • Prepare Forward Order schedules clearly indicating quantities & delivery dates and forward to suppliers.
    • Negotiate the best price, terms, quality and most cost-effective mode of transport.
    • Place orders and capture on the system.
    • Review quantities required and update forward order schedules.
    • Arrange for collection of goods from suppliers/shipping agents.
    • Source and purchase non-stock and consumable goods and services in line with specifications and company procedures.
    • Continually do market research for alternatives and new developments to ensure the most cost-effective sourcing.
    • Authorize payment to vendors once the quality of goods is confirmed and accepted by end users.
    • Ensure all non-stock and consumables goods/services received comply with Company Quality Specifications.
    • Costing for quotation, budget, and price list purposes.
    • Monitor and analyse price fluctuations and report findings.
    • Process non-stock GI's as and when required and submit for payment to finance
    • Ensure suppliers are issued with approved Company Quality Specifications.
    • Ensure all non-stock and stock items comply with the company quality specifications and approve for final acceptance.

    Requirements
    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Matric
    • Purchasing Diploma / BA / BCom Degree (preferential)
    • SAGE X3 and computer literacy
