    Director: Human Resources (5-year renewable contract)(Re-advertised) - Kimberley

    Minimum Requirements    

    • A post-graduate degree in HRM or Industrial and Organisational Psychology
    • 8 to 10 years relevant experience as an HR Manager in a generalist HR environment, of which the last 5 years’ experience has been in a senior management position, preferably in Higher Education
    • Superior interpersonal skills and must be able to operate at all levels of the organization
    • Strategic leadership and people management skills
    • A good understanding and experience in change management implementation
    • Familiarity with the higher education legislative environment
    • Has a successful record of leadership and teamwork
    • Has the ability to mobilize and inspire others towards shared goals
    • Understands the overall operations and affairs of a university environment
    • Thinks strategically and operationalise this into plans and projects
    • Plan and manage budgets

    Duties & Responsibilities    

    • Actively support the Chief Operating Officer in managing the Human Resource (HR) portfolios
    • Formulates the strategic vision and direction of an integrated Human Resources function aligned to the needs and expectations of core customers, e.g. advises on the most appropriate HR structure and organization to meet the evolving needs of the Sol Plaatje University.
    • Review and update the SPU HR priorities, aligned to the SPU strategy
    • Position HR as a strategic partner to contribute to the effective management of the University, and to ensure the availability of HR policies, practices and procedures which will encourage optimal staff recruitment, development, and deployment towards the achievement of the Sol Plaatje University’s vision.
    • Initiate and drive the implementation of leadership philosophy and culture that will support the implementation of the SPU mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities

    Officer: Intellectual Property & Technology Transfer (Fixed term contract) - Kimberley

    Duties & Responsibilities    

    • Identify and manage IP emanating from SPU.
    • Conduct preliminary patent searches,
    • Assess the potential of SPU technology to be protected
    • Accurate and timeous recording of all invention disclosures, all relevant information in respect of IP in the portfolio, associated protecting filings and prosecution and maintenance thereof.
    • Conduct IP due diligence.
    • Develop and maintain an IP database, agreements and relationships as appropriate,
    • Put in place a database for all IP for the university
    • Conduct freedom to operate for the potential IP.
    • Co-prepare reports to NIPMO with Senior Manager: I&TT
    • Audit License agreement ‘s obligations and support the Senior Manager in implementing mitigating strategies.
    • Build an awareness of organisational priorities for technology transfer
    • Contribute to identifying research proposals and current research projects that have outputs that could potentially be commercialised
    • Contribute to identifying useful IP in research outputs
    • Collaborate with and support other research and knowledge transfer professionals in other institutions
    • Build an understanding of the funding landscape across the research and innovation value chain
    • Familiarise researchers with knowledge transfer approaches
    • Build an understanding of organisational structures and processes for knowledge transfer
    • Familiarise researchers with contracts management (e.g. due diligence)
