Job Summary/Introduction

The incumbent will be responsible for the Actuarial function for the Group, including but not limited to managing and providing assurance on actuarial control and governance, product, pricing, reinsurance, and business partnering within the Group.
Description

Key Areas of Responsibility:

• Oversee and manage the regulatory responsibilities of the Actuarial function and Actuarial Department.
• Oversee the development, monitoring and steering of products and actuarial pricing.
• Manage the department through effective performance reviews and ensuring that the team meets reporting and other deadlines.
• Provide team members with continuous growth opportunities through ongoing coaching and mentoring.
• Professional representation and active participation on various committees/meetings.
• Represent the actuarial department on actuarial matters in meetings with all Groups Divisions, Exco, and industry representatives.
• Represent the Group on actuarial matters in meetings with rating agencies, public officials, and industry analysts.
• Interact with appropriate actuarial and regulatory committees on developing initiatives of importance to the organisation.
• Attend and participate in meetings of the Board, Risk Committee, Actuarial Committee, Investment Committee.
• Reporting, Legal and Compliance and Risk Management within the Actuarial function.
• Provide high quality advice and actuarial services to clients, consistently meeting approved quality standards.
• Enhance decision-making through the development of new risk management/mitigation tools as it relates to the actuarial function.

Candidate's Profile

Qualifications and Experience required:

• Must be a Qualified Actuary and a Bachelor's Degree in Actuarial Science.
• Must be a fellow of the Actuarial Society of South Africa.
• IFRS 17 experience (advantageous).
• Over 10 years post-qualification experience progressive related experience developing strategies, managing major initiatives and delivering results within an actuarial function.
• More than 6 years of people leadership experience in building, managing and high-performing teams is required.
• Experience at senior manager level.

Knowledge Skills and Experience required:

• Advanced actuarial technical expertise and product specific knowledge.
• Experience collaborating with key resources and stakeholders and managing work to achieve strategic goals required.
• Extensive experience with reserving, actuarial and capital modelling, and valuations in the life and non-life space.
• Detailed knowledge and experience of current insurance legislative framework and prudential requirements.
• Executive-level business acumen in the areas of business operations, industry practices and emerging trends required.
• Strong knowledge of core functions of an insurance company, general insurance, actuarial and statistical concepts.
• Sound experience in product development and pricing
• Must have Knowledge of reinsurance
• Analytical thinking, Business insight, and Complex problem-solving

Job Description:

To provide the company with legal opinions, product development advice and affiliated legal services relating to long term insurance, investments, retirement funds and other general legal services relating to marketing, digital and loyalty programmes.

The work you need to deliver:

• Providing general legal services to the business including dispensing advice to all areas within the organisation as required
• A large focus area will entail drafting, vetting and negotiating agreements with internal and external clients, as well as third parties
• Keeping abreast of legislative developments
• Reviewing, interpreting and implementing relevant legislation in colloboration with the Compliance Team
• Opinion work (written/verbal and formal/informal as required)
• Legal research on pertinent issues that impact the business
• Presenting and training on legal issues and legislation
• Formulating and drafting of policy documents
• Rendering expert legal technical assistance, design, imput and approval of new product structures during the product development process in the long term isurance, investments, LISP and retirement funds areas
• General corporate governance issues.

Competencies required:

• Knowledge and in-depth understanding of the relevant financial services legislation e.g. Long Term Insurance Act, POPI, ECTA, CPA, Pension Funds Act, FAIS and FICA as well as applicable secondary legislation
• Extensive knowledge of financial products and the structuring thereof
• Knowledge of the advice processes associated with the marketing and selling of investments and investment products
• Retirement planning, business insurance and estate planning knowledge
• Sound knowledge of financial markets

Candidate Profile:

• Admitted Attorney
• At least 5 years financial services industry experience dealing with long term insurance, investment and associated products
• Preference will be given to EE/AA candidates.
