    Student Counsellor (Grade 8) - 5 Year Sessional /Part time Contract - Ref No.: CHS01/2024 (Newcastle/Madadeni)

    Job description
    Responsibilities:

    • To promote positive mental health and facilitate the holistic development, and emotional well-being of the College of Health Sciences students, through the provision of assessment, individual and group counselling/therapy, wellness programmes, skills development, and referral services.
    • Minimum requirements:
    •  Master’s degree in Psychology (Counselling, Clinical, Educational or Industrial) or Master’s degree in Social Work (with specialisation in Clinical Social Work)
    •  Current professional registration as an independent practitioner with the HPCSA or SACSSP.
    •  Two (2) years of post-registration, relevant experience as an independent practitioner.
    •   Knowledge of student learning, and development theories
    •  Must have the flexibility to offer the contracted hours of service in either the working day, afternoons, evenings or weekends.
    •  Services must be offered face to face at the respective DCTP site.
    •  Sessional Student Counsellors must have time available to offer services for a minimum of 15 hours per week

    Minimum requirements

The successful candidate will be expected to register for a doctoral degree at UKZN and will be closely mentored to become an academic through a programme designed to assist with early career development.

    • A BSc in Geology
    • A Masters degree in Geochemistry, Igneous or Metamorphic Petrology, with a pass mark of at leas 70%
