Description

• This position exists to provide and manage mechanical engineering tasks on projects in general and specifically related to pump and pipeline designs and implementation and to undertake strategic initiatives and projects within the NXTGEN department, in support of the Group.
• The focus of the role is to develop into an industry leader in the conceptualisation and design of hydro mining solutions and to drive development and innovation within the business in line with the company strategy, to evaluate and assure control environments, and to provide research, analytical and technical support to the Divisions.
• The role will also facilitate the integration of new technologies into the operational divisions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Pump and Pipeline Systems Designs

• Oversee and conduct a lead role in planning, executing, monitoring, controlling, and closing of assigned strategic projects.
• Ensuring management of the entire project scope, project team, resources, budgets, and the success of the project.
• Coordinate and manage external consultants, suppliers and developers in execution of projects.

Project Management

• Oversee and conduct a lead role in planning, executing, monitoring, controlling, and closing of assigned strategic projects.
• Ensuring management of the entire project scope, project team, resources, budgets, and the success of the project.
• Coordinate and manage external consultants, suppliers and developers in execution of projects.

NXTGEN Reporting

• Develop and implement business model and business plans for NXTGEN initiatives.
• Deliver detailed progress reports on appointed strategic projects.
• Communicating and providing project specific information to EXCO and/or relevant Stakeholders.
• Driving NXTGEN awareness in the business.
• Driving marketing initiatives relating to NXTGEN projects.

Risk Identification and Management

• Identify the risks associated with NXTGEN and develop solutions to engineer out or mitigate these risks.
• Turning challenges and risks into strengths that provide a unique selling opportunity for the NXTGEN Solutions.
• Identify the controls and mitigations by which these risks are managed within the business and provide a full evaluation of the control environment.
• Ongoing liaison with the mineral processing and tailings technical and operational teams to implement new work practices.

Innovative Engineering Solutions

• Industry trends, initiatives and opportunity awareness.
• Research projects (Academic/Other) – Project lead and management.
• New equipment solutions – investigate, identify and R&D and operationalise model.
• New tailings deposition/placement solutions – investigate, define, and operationalise model.
• New reclamation solutions including pumping and piping systems – investigate, define and operationalise model, including concept mechanical designs.
• Risk management solutions – best practice tools.
• Marketing – innovative solutions to market.
• Commercial negotiations and formalisation of innovative solutions with service providers, suppliers, consultants, etc.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

• Engineering degree (BSc with Honours) or BEng – Mechanical Engineering
• Project Management experience will be advantageous

EXPERIENCE

• 5-10 years applicable experience

REQUIREMENTS

Production Requirements

• Operation of FEL, TLB Excavator, ADT, Grader and Water Truck to either load, dig, clean trenches, ditch slimes dam, maintenance of access roads, connecting pipes and building of deposition wall.
• Ensure that relevant SOP’s (Standard operating procedure) for the specific machine is followed at all times.
• Responsible for general housekeeping of the machine.
• General inspection of the machine before / after the shift, and complete inspection checklist.
• Adhere to safety rules and regulations at all times.

Equipment

• Complete pre-shift inspection report at the beginning of every shift, report all faults and problems to the Supervisor.
• Inspect the equipment (machine) and the working area.

Operator Maintenance

• Operate and maintain equipment as per OEM operator manual specifications.
• Check condition of the machine.
• Always ensure cleanliness of the machine.
• Ensure lubrication as per OEM specifications.
• Maintain fuel levels in the machine as required.
• Assist maintenance personnel with tasks when required

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

• Grade 12.
• Valid MQA accredited (FEL/ TLB/ Excavator/ ADT/ Grader/ Water Truck) Competency Certificate.

EXPERIENCE

• At least 2-3 years relevant work experience in an earthmoving environment.

SKILLS, QUALITIES AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

• Good communication skills (verbal and written).
• Ability to operate without supervision.

• Valid Code 10 driver’s license.

 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

• Lead and manage project execution teams.
• Support, guide and coach teams.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

• BSc Degree / BTech qualification in Mining / Metallurgy / Chemical / Civil or similar.
• Project and a general management qualification would be advantageous.
• Mineral Processing course.
• Mineral Residue Disposal course (MRD101).

EXPERIENCE

• Minimum five years relevant experience in respect of managing tailings and/or remining sites.
• Proven experience in different types of deposition techniques such as paddocking, cycloning.
• Remining, deposition and Construction management experience would be advantageous
• Proven practical and hands-on experience in the management of leaders, labour and plant resources.
• Planning and commissioning of projects, preferably on tailings or re-mining operations.

SHEQ Management

• Check sums are right on plan drawings and quantities and that all materials and work are to the specifications.
• Record the condition of plant arriving on site on a form with photographs.

QUALIFICATIONS

• National Diploma in Civil/ Industrial/ metallurgy engineering.

• At least one to two year’s tailings deposition experience working in a mining / tailing's environment or construction environment.
