    Sales Associate, South Africa

    About the Sales Associate Role

    As a Sales Associate you’ll drive Paystack’s future growth engine by building relationships with prospective clients and turning them into happy Paystack users. You’ll handle the full sales cycle for large enterprises, local corporates and multinationals. You will own the relationship and be the main point of contact with merchants that will be instrumental to Paystack’s future growth; identify new business opportunities, and work to increase the market share and adoption of Paystack within your target sectors and markets. 

    In terms of the profile we seek: You are an adept salesperson seeking to build a long-term career in sales. You are capable of engaging in business conversations with C-level executives, and also comfortable having high-level technical conversations with relevant stakeholders. You have an understanding of the buyer journey and can lead relatively long, multi stakeholder deals in a highly consultative manner. You understand how to communicate value to differentiate competing product offerings and enjoy working on products that require deep product knowledge, combined with technical knowledge.

    This is a full-time role is based in Country and reporting to the Sales Manager or Country Lead. 

    What You'll Be Doing

    As a Sales Associate, you’ll:

    • Manage the sales cycle from pipeline generation to close, for corporates and multi- nation enterprises to deliver on an annual revenue quota (target)
    • Receive qualified inbound sales opportunities and drive them to close them. You will work closely with Technical product specialists and Key account managers to convert these requests
    • Own a named account list and develop demand-generation plans for creating, nurturing, winning and expanding business within your target sectors
    • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and operational teams both within and outside Paystack

    What it takes to succeed at this role

    • 5+ years of sales experience in the software, financial and/or technology sectors with a track record of top performance

    • Able to understand complex technical requirements and craft solutions across multiple products
    • Strong ability to drive sales engagements via the phone and online, sustaining focused conversations to achieve a clear objective
    • Able to build trust and credibility by providing accurate information and guidance to prospects regarding Paystack’s products and solution capabilities
    • Strong presentation skills, particularly for in-person meetings with multiple stakeholders
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to operate in a highly ambiguous and fast-paced environment
    • Strong interest in technology

    While this is NOT strictly required, it would be a plus if you:

    • have previous experience in the banking, payments, or the payment cards industry

    Technical Product Specialist

    What is the scope of responsibilities?

    • As a Technical Product Specialist on the Technical Account Management sub-team, you'll work closely with some of our most important merchant partners to help them solve business problems with the Paystack API.
    • You'll meet with merchants who're looking for a reliable payment provider and propose innovative, and comprehensive solutions to their problems. You'll create product demos that indicate a deep understanding of the merchant's business and the problems they're trying to solve. Where necessary, you'll work on sample apps and code snippets that reduce the amount of time it takes for these merchants to go live, by giving them the scaffolding they need to build their payment solutions, instead of starting from scratch.
    • You'll work with the Sales and Key Account Management teams to strategize and create plans to ensure success for key merchants across various industries. When merchants are ready to begin their integration, you'll be on standby to provide guidance as a technical advisor and troubleshooter, helping to unblock their development teams.
    • You'll also work closely with some of our biggest and key merchants, to help them unlock further value from Paystack. From encouraging them to implement new features, to making suggestions on how best to structure their calls to our API, you'll become a trusted advisor to the CTOs and engineers at these companies, as well as being their advocate within Paystack, channeling their needs and wants to our Product teams for prioritization.
    • Your proximity to our merchants gives you first-hand context that our Product and Engineering teams will rely on when planning their roadmaps and prioritizing new features or products. You'll be able to provide valuable insight to our Developer Experience sub-team, by sharing feedback from your accounts on what's working for them and what isn't.

    • This is a full-time role, and you'll report directly to the Customer Success Manager for Developer Relations. The successful candidate will ideally be physically located in Cape Town or Johannesburg, South Africa. The role may require occasional travel to Lagos, Nigeria, when it's safer to travel.

    We'll trust you to

    • Work with the Sales and Key Accounts teams help prospects evaluate and adopt Paystack solutions. You'll help drive the discovery process to deeply understand merchants' pain points, and propose technical solutions that solve them
    • Work with a team of technical support agents to investigate and solve integration issues our merchants are facing
    • Create product demos and proofs of concept that demonstrate Paystack's ability to solve a wide range of merchants' business needs
    • Host trainings and technical workshops to educate merchants on new Paystack products, as well as on how they can improve their existing integrations
    • Communicate data-driven insights, recommendations, and merchant feedback to relevant internal teams to influence product development and developer relations efforts

    You'll thrive as a Technical Product Specialist if you

    • Have strong communication skills and enjoy the challenge of understanding key customer requirements and articulating the correct solution to our customers. Technology consulting experience is a plus.
    • Are perceptive and a fast learner. You’re able to quickly understand the technology that powers Paystack and able to leverage your understanding to help our merchants achieve their goals.
    • Can connect with both technical and non-technical audiences, able to easily translate and serve as a mediator between both groups
    • Are a strong problem solver. You genuinely enjoy getting into the weeds of customers' issues and finding both short and long term solution to problems
    • Have software development experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • backend development (Java, C#, Node.js, Python, PHP)
    • web development (JavaScript, HTML/CSS, frontend frameworks - React, Vue.js, Angular)
    • mobile development (Android, iOS, React Native)
    • Have experience building and/or consuming with REST APIs.

    Demand Gen Marketer (South Africa)

    About the Demand Gen Marketer role

    • We’re looking for creative, thoughtful, self-starters to help identify the most ambitious businesses in Africa, and connect those businesses with the tools they need to grow. As a founding member of the Paystack Demand Gen team, you’ll help shape and implement campaigns that drive leads for Paystack’s suite of products, and help meet our growth goals within the different countries where we operate.

    • You’ll become an audience, industry, and product expert who deeply understands the challenges faced by businesses in Africa. And you’ll leverage a broad range of tactics - including content, sponsorships, paid acquisition, events, webinars, and much more - to help those business recognise the different ways that Paystack can accelerate their growth.
    • You’ll help acquire new merchants, as well as help existing merchants discover new ways to leverage Paystack. You’ll do this by working together with our partner ecosystems (such as development agencies) as well as in partnership with several smart, kind colleagues across Paystack, including sales, editorial, strategic partnerships, design, international expansion, and our product teams.
    • Our work at Paystack means that we often operate in opportunity-rich, but information-poor environments. What this means is that the ideal candidate is a creative powerhouse. You enjoy the challenge of coming up with innovative ideas for acquiring merchants, rolling up your sleeves to test your acquisition hypotheses, and keeping a close eye on the ROI of those efforts.
    • We also recognise that this means that the ideal candidate might not necessarily come from a traditional marketing background. While a background working in tech startups is a plus, what matters most is that you have a strong bias for action, and when pointed to a merchant segment, you can come up with creative ways to find Paystack’s best customers within that audience, and clearly communicate the results of your campaign.
