    Programme Manager (Makhanda Circle of Unity) 3-Year Contract

    • The Programme Manager is responsible for providing strategic leadership, coordination, and operational management of the Makhanda Circle of Unity (MCoU), an established multi-stakeholder civil society collaboration platform dedicated to the inclusive socio-economic development of Makhanda and its surrounds.
    • Building on the foundations laid since the formalisation of the MCoU as a registered non-profit organisation in 2021, and the successful activation of its cluster-based collaboration model, the Programme Manager will consolidate and expand the MCoU’s programmes, partnerships, and impact. The role serves as the central integrator and convenor across stakeholder clusters, enabling distributed leadership, strengthening cross-sector collaboration, and translating collective priorities into coordinated, high-impact projects and initiatives.
    • The Programme Manager will drive programme implementation across priority thematic clusters (including education, food security, local economic development, and community engagement), support collaborative problem-solving and advocacy, and deepen strategic partnerships with civil society organisations, educational institutions, business forums, donors, and relevant public sector stakeholders.
    • A core objective of the role is to strengthen organisational sustainability through resource mobilisation, partnership development, improved operational systems, and enhanced stakeholder communication and visibility. The Programme Manager will also support governance processes, reporting, and accountability to the Steering Committee and funders, ensuring that the MCoU remains a trusted, neutral, and effective platform for civic partnership and community impact.

    The Requirements
    At least a relevant Bachelor's Degree in Commerce, Law or Social Sciences (NQF level 7), with at least 4 years relevant experience, where such experience includes: - 

    • Previous experience working with NGOs, government, and the private sector
    • A strong track record of managing complex projects
    • Track record of successful people management
    • A track record of successful fundraising, financial management and visibility impact
    • Track record of initiating and successfully managing change

    Lecturer

    Main Objectives

    • All academics are responsible for disseminating knowledge (teaching and learning), creating knowledge (research), and engaging with the community, and for recognising differences in the execution of these responsibilities across the various departments and Faculties.  Academics are also expected to assume administrative, management, and/or leadership duties at the departmental, faculty, and/or university levels.
    • In addition, a Professor and an Associate Professor are to provide academic leadership in the following areas: teaching and learning; research and community engagement; and contribute towards the institution's governance. This professor's leadership contribution should be evidenced at the departmental, faculty, and institutional levels.

    The Requirements

    • At least a BCom (Honours) in Accounting, Auditing, Taxation or Management Accounting and Finance or PGDip (Accounting) or equivalent, preferably with progress being made towards a Master's or CA.
    • Tutoring or facilitation experience required. No teaching experience is required.
    • Ability to teach in the following disciplinary areas: Accounting, Auditing, Taxation or Management Accounting and Finance
    • No research supervision required
    • Track record of administration (may be in student roles), and/or leadership roles (leadership roles may be informal)

    Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor

    Main Objectives

    • All academics are responsible for disseminating knowledge (teaching and learning), creating knowledge (research), and engaging in community engagement, recognising differences in executing these responsibilities within the various departments and faculties. Academics are also expected to assume administrative, management, and/or leadership duties at the departmental, faculty, and/or university levels and contribute to their profession. 
    • In addition, professors and associate professors provide academic leadership in teaching and learning, research, and community engagement and contribute towards the institution's governance. This professor's leadership contribution should be evidenced at the departmental, faculty, and institutional levels. 

    The Requirements

    Senior Lecturer:

    • At least a PhD in Microbiology or a related discipline
    • Teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels is required
    • Experience in teaching topics and research in Microbiology, specialising in one or more of the following fields: parasitology, immunology, vaccinology or similar
    • Research supervision from at least a Master's degree to completion
    • Emerging national profile in the discipline
    • Track record of research publications and evidence of research grant acquisition
    • Proven track record of administration, management, and/or leadership roles in teaching, assessment, research and community engagement

    Associate Professor:

    • At least a PhD in Microbiology or a related discipline
    • Considerable teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels
    • Experience in teaching topics and research in Microbiology, specialising in one or more of the following fields: parasitology, immunology, vaccinology or similar
    • Research supervision of Master's and  PhD degrees to completion
    • National and emerging international profile in the discipline
    • Track record of research publications and evidence of research grant acquisition
    • Proven track record of administration, management, and/or leadership roles in teaching, assessment, research and community engagement
