    Tax & Fiduciary Advisor and Team Leader

    Description

    • The successful candidate will join Investec's Tax & Fiduciary Advisory team, a specialist, high-performance private client team within Investec Private Bank and Investec Wealth & Investment International.
    • The team provide high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth individuals, families, and business owners with bespoke, intergenerational tax and estate planning solutions — both domestically and cross border.
    • The scope of work includes tax-efficient structuring, exchange control planning, global estate and succession strategies, and fiduciary advice. The team is known for simplifying complexity and delivering solutions that align with the personal, professional, and commercial interests of our clients.

    Key Responsibilities

    • As a Cross-Border Tax & Fiduciary Advisor, you will be responsible for delivering, drafting and reviewing advice on complex structuring mandates involving international tax, exchange control, and estate planning matters. 
    • You will play a key role in driving advisory outcomes, mentoring colleagues and ensuring high technical standards across the team's output.
    • Specifically, as a team leader you would be responsible primarily for, but not limited to, the upskilling, growth and development of the team members within the KZN region as well as contributing to the private client strategies

    Your responsibilities will include:

    • Delivering bespoke, high-quality structuring advice involving domestic and cross-border tax, global estate planning, situs and probate, and exchange control considerations.
    • Preparing, drafting and reviewing detailed advisory memorandums, tax opinions, and structuring proposals.
    • Overseeing the implementation of recommendations, including coordination with legal, fiduciary, and banking partners.
    • Providing technical mentorship and review support for team members.
    • Leading client engagements with HNW and UHNW individuals, families, family offices, and corporates.
    • Drafting and reviewing complex exchange control applications and liaising with SARB (via Authorised Dealers).
    • Liaising with the Technical Committee and contributing to internal technical training, toolkits, articles and newsletters.
    • Identifying structuring opportunities aligned with Investec's broader client strategy, including entrenching the client and relationship deepening.
    • Preparing and presenting regional training and/or national training, together with existing team members.
    • Business building via inter alia, networking with existing service providers, hosting panel discussions for industry professionals / for clients.
    • Developing and participating in private client strategies for the KZN region.

    Skills and Competencies

    • LLB, Bacc, BCom Law, or equivalent qualification.
    • Postgraduate diploma in tax or international tax law is essential. CFP® or STEP designation is advantageous.
    • Minimum 7 years' experience in tax advisory with demonstrable exposure to international private client work.
    • Proven ability to sign off complex tax advice and assume technical responsibility for structuring output.
    • Strong working knowledge of SA tax, global tax frameworks, exchange control, and fiduciary instruments.
    • Experience working with high-net-worth individuals, multi-jurisdictional families, and/or family office structures.
    • Estate Planning and Fiduciary knowledge in the private client sphere.
    • Excellent drafting, research, and analytical skills.
    • Client-focused, with the ability to balance precision with practical execution.
    • Stakeholder engagement skills.
    • Leadership experience advantageous

    Fees Accountant - 6 Month Fixed Term Contract

    Description

    • To lead and manage end-to-end finance operations across Fees, Cash, Capital Adequacy (CAPAD), Stock Scan, Foreign Payments and Annual Financial Statements (AFS) for IWI and group subsidiaries. You will ensure accurate allocations, timely processing, rigorous regulatory compliance, and high-quality financial reporting, while coordinating with front office, IFAs, internal stakeholders and external auditors. 

    Key Responsibilities

    Fees 

    • Oversee 3rd party allocations from IFAs for shared clients, ensuring correct allocation to the appropriate advisors in line with agreed terms 
    • Manage SE platform instructions (pro-rata fee postings, account closures, fee scale changes, adjustments and reversals) to ensure timely and accurate postings 
    • Approve and process local fee system workflows (pro-rata fee approvals, fee scale overrides with necessary approvals, account closures) 
    • Manage mailbox queries related to fees, providing timely responses to local and offshore inquiries 
    • Lead month-end processes for brokerage rebates to IFAs; ensure IFA statements are issued to front office; post month-end journals for JSET interest, carry interest and AUM journals; ensure accurate cross-entity allocations 

    Cash 

    • Daily cash management: optimise cash inflows and outflows, fund the FM account daily, oversee collections and disbursements, and maintain liquidity and financial health 
    • Forecast cash needs, monitor compliance with cash policies, and generate management reporting on cash position and movements 

    CAPAD (Capital Adequacy) 

    • Maintain and monitor capital reserves to satisfy regulatory requirements (JSE Market Regulation and FSCA oversight) 
    • Daily monitoring and reporting of the IWI's capital adequacy position 
    • Ensure regulatory compliance with JSE rules and directives on capital requirements; understand and apply risk calculations (market risk, counterparty risk, operational risk) 
    • Maintain documentation and controls for capital management processes; ensure timely updates and auditable records 

    Stock Scan 

    • Perform daily stock scans to retrieve assets valued at current market prices; provide real-time visibility of profits/losses and unrealised gains/losses 
    • Use results to manage risk, ensure transparency, and meet regulatory requirements by reflecting true current financial health 

    Foreign Payments 

    • Complete BOP forms for foreign invoices and obtain approvals from authorised signatories 
    • Process journals in JDE to record foreign transactions; maintain tracking spreadsheets for expenses 

    Annual Financial Statements (AFS) 

    • Prepare and compile accurate AFS in accordance with IFRS for designated subsidiary(s) 
    • Lead year-end financial reporting activities, including planning, preparation, and coordination with departments and external auditors. 
    • Prepare audit files and schedules; reconcile balance sheet, intercompany and other accounts; resolve discrepancies 
    • Assist with supplementary notes, cash flow statements, fixed asset registers, and other disclosures 
    • Liaise with external auditors to address queries, implement recommendations, and support an unqualified audit opinion 

    Governance, Controls and Compliance 

    • Ensure adherence to internal policies and external regulatory requirements (FMA, JSE, FSCA, IFRS) 
    • Maintain robust documentation, control environments and audit trails across all processes 
    • Identify, assess and mitigate process risks, support continuous improvement initiatives 

    Relationships and Stakeholders 

    • Collaborate with Front Office, Compliance, IT, IFA relations, and Group finance teams 
    • Interface with external auditors and regulatory bodies as required 

    Qualifications, Experience and Skills

    • Qualification: Chartered Accountant (CA(SA)) or equivalent professional qualification (ACCA/CPA) with substantive experience in financial services 
    • Experience: 5+ years in finance operations, preferably within asset management, brokerage, or financial markets; exposure to regulatory capital requirements and IFRS reporting 
    • Systems: Proficiency with JDE (or similar ERP), SE platform, local fee systems, and other IWI systems; strong proficiency in Excel and data analytics 
    • Regulatory Knowledge: Working knowledge of JSE Market Regulation rules, FSCA requirements, and IFRS standards; experience with capital adequacy reporting 
    • Financial and risk management acumen; strong analytical and problem-solving abilities 
    • Detail-oriented with high accuracy and strong organisational skills 
    • Excellent stakeholder management and communication; ability to liaise with front office, IFA's, and auditors 
    • Process improvement mindset; ability to design and implement efficient controls 
    • Ability to work under deadlines and manage multiple priorities in a regulated environment

    FAIS Compliance Officer- IWI

    Role Description 

    • The FAIS Compliance Officer will play a key role in ensuring the organization's ongoing compliance with the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services (FAIS) Act. This position is responsible for registering FAIS representations for the business, providing expert advice to all Wealth & Investment businesses regarding compliance, and actively monitoring FAIS and conduct compliance related to the company's FAIS license.

    Responsibilities:

    • Register FAIS representatives for the business and maintain accurate records of all registrations.
    • Advise business units on FAIS compliance requirements, including licensing, reporting, and operational procedures.
    • Monitor and review ongoing FAIS and conduct compliance across all relevant business areas.
    • Develop and implement compliance frameworks, policies and practical procedures to policies to ensure adherence to FAIS legislation.
    • Report on compliance status, risks, and remediation activities to senior management.
    • Provide training and support to staff on FAIS compliance matters.
    • Liaise with vendor that supplies the FAIS records system regarding system updates, changes and requirements
    • Engage with regulators on queries and during regulatory inspections 

    Qualifications, Experience and Skills

    • Bachelor's degree in Law, Finance, or a related field.
    • 5–10 years' experience as a registered FAIS Compliance Officer.
    • Proven experience in FAIS licensing, compliance monitoring, and regulatory reporting.
    • Knowledge of the Collective Investment Schemes Control Act (CISCA) and Financial Markets Rules essential.
    • Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks, conduct risk management, and governance practices.
    • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
    • Detail‑oriented, highly organised, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
    • Demonstrates professional integrity, strong ethical standards, and sound judgement.
    • Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to advise, influence and train staff.
