    Environmental and Social Advisor (E&S)

    Main purpose of position

    The Environmental and Social Advisor will help to ensure that Scatec projects deliver on their commitments and obligations in relation to environmental and social aspects. As our E&S Compliance Coordinator, you will lead all E&S work streams for a number of solar and wind projects in different southern African regions, in compliance with IFC Performance Standards, other lender requirements, local law and regulations and Scatec policies.

    Main responsibilities 

    • Ensure and quality assure the development of project-specific, feasible and IFC Performance Standards compliant ESIAs, ESMPs and ESMS.
    • Scope and manage E&S technical requirements in selection of environmental service contractors as per local environmental requirements and supervise compliance of contractors and subcontractors.
    • Manage workstreams within the overall Project timeline, budget and risk framework, in close coordination of the other functions involved in the development and construction of the Project.
    • Liaise with HSSE teams of SSO and subcontractors’ and support and train on environmental management.
    • Actively participate in regional sustainability network and provide expert opinion on E&S issues across the Company’s global project portfolio.
    • Coordinate Sustainability efforts between projects and ensure annual planning as well relevant monitoring and reporting for internal reports. 
    • Participate in team meetings as required.
    • Provide relevant environmental and social information for internal reports.

    Qualifications and competencies

    • Relevant tertiary qualification/ University degree within economics, accounting, business or environmental/climate science
    • Minimum 2 years’ experience in an environmental and social environment position
    • Preferable knowledge from the renewable energy industry
    • Environmental and Social Governance: Plan and advise local teams on Infrastructure projects
    • Sustainability reporting: Contribute to annual Sustainability report
    • Corporate and Local Sustainability Projects: Propose and manage implementation of UN SDG and local legislation
    • Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS): Contribute, update, and execute the ESMS system platform
    • Equator Principles and IFC Performance Standards: Ensure compliance with ESIA and ESAP to Equator Principles and IFC Perf Standards
    • E&S compliance of contractors and subcontractors: Report to lenders requirements
    • ESG reporting requirements: Advise and ensure compliance with requirements and regulations
    • Supervise and when required manage the processes of obtaining required environmental licenses and permits as per South African legislation
    • Understanding of South African Environmental Legislation: National Environmental Management Act (NEMA), National Environmental Management: Biodiversity (Act 10 of 2004); Conservation of Agricultural Resources Act – CARA (Act 43 of 1983), National Water Act, No 36 of 1998

    Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Manager - Ceres

    Main purpose of the position

    As our Operations & Maintenance Manager (Power Production) you will be responsible to manage the Operations and Maintenance activities of the fully dispatchable electricity generation Project in Ceres, Western Cape, South Africa. To ensure the health and safety of all people and equipment under his/her control, whilst ensuring maximum possible energy production at all times.

    Main Responsibilities

    • Adhere to company policies and procedures
    • Any ad hoc task that may arise at request from Management this may include the need to assist Technical teams
    • Manage the Operations and Maintenance of all Solar PV Plants including the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) under his/her control
    • Manage and take responsibility for Plant Safety in all aspects including legal appointments as required by law at all Plants under his/her control
    • Help build a sound Safety and Quality Culture within O&M
    • Manage all O&M staff under his/her control
    • Develop a good working environment and build a motivated O&M team
    • Manage the O&M HR function and support the plant managers/supervisors with HR functions
    • Manage training and development needs of Plant personnel
    • Accept and implement the relevant legal appointments in terms of the OHS Act or equivalent regulations and
    • legislation
    • Visit and audit the functioning of all Solar PV plants under his/her control
    • Implement the integrated resourcing strategy for all Plants under his/her control
    • Analysis and reduction of equipment downtime across all Plants under his/her control
    • Drive the effective management of warranty & insurance claims
    • Drive and ensure the resolution of nonconformance and issues
    • Manage the effective handover of new Plants under his/her control
    • Manage the implementation of the O&M functions at new Plants
    • Ensure sound O&M administration and document management
    • Communicate effectively with other departments, external contractors and management
    • Manage all related stakeholders – internal and external
    • Communicate company values and objectives
    • Manage O&M quality programs and drive continuous improvement across all Plants under his/her control
    • Manage the standardised O&M processes & procedures
    • Manage the organisational standardised HSSEQ system across all Solar PV Plants (incl. BESS) under his/her control
    • Manage the organisational standardised Permit to Work system across all Plants (incl. BESS) under his/her control
    • Manage the organisational HV/MV operating regulations and plant safety regulations across all Plants (incl. BESS) under his/her control
    • Manage the Plant performance monitoring program (including, downtime, plant events, equipment failure
    • analysis, Plant Availability, PR, etc.
    • Manage the process for recording equipment maintenance history & calibration records as per organisational standard on CMMS;
    • Manage a spare parts management strategy & system across all Plants, and ensure appropriate stock levels
    • Manage and control the operational budget as delegated by Management
    • Manage and ensure Plant Operating Plans for all Plants under his/her control are in place
    • Ensure compliance of O&M processes and procedures to O&M contract
    • Designated as GMR2(1) to ensure supervision and operation of machinery in terms of the OHS Act

    Reporting

    • Manage and coordinate the required operational reports
    • Prepare the required reports to top management
    • Manage effective communication of Plant significant events to top management
    • Attend and support BOD meetings where required

    Qualifications And Competencies

    • National Diploma: Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current)
    • BTech: Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current) or BEng Electrical Engineering
    • Required: Government Certificate of Competency – Factories
    • Knowledge of Safety legislation and best practices
    • Highly computer literate: Excellent knowledge of MS Office
    • 5 years’ appropriate experience as an appointed GMR2(1) in a renewable energy plant or power production environment
    • 10 years’ appropriate experience in a relevant environment
    • Managerial experience in a technical environment
    • Experience within the Renewable Energy environment
    • Personnel performance management experience
    • Experience with HSSE systems and regulations, including GMR (General Machine Regulations)
    • Experience in Physical Asset Management, Plant Maintenance Management & Equipment Reliability improvement Exposure to SCADA systems
    • Work experience in the power generation or distribution environment
    • Competency in pertinent plant electrical equipment such as Transformers, Inverters, Switchgear, Sub-station equipment, SCADA, network communication and Battery Energy Storage Systems
    • Experience with HV Operating Regulations and Permit to Work systems
    • Experience with CMMS or ERP and Control & Monitoring Centres
    • Experience in dealing with a large staff complement and dealing with labour Unions and potential strike/protest action

    Vice President (VP): Asset Ownership & Stakeholder Relations

    Main purpose of position

    Currently we are looking for a Vice President (VP) for Asset Ownership & Stakeholder Relations in Cape Town, South Africa to be part of our global team working together towards our vision – Improving our future. The VP - Asset Ownership & Stakeholder Relations will protect and represent Scatec’s shareholder interests in it’s project SPV’s. Where appropriate, to maximize returns on and reduce risks on project investments through active industrial ownership (at project’s shareholders and board levels, as well as internally). To support Project Development, Project Finance, Construction and O&M processes prior to Financial Close. Maintain sound partnership and stakeholder management, including high-level relations with equity partners. Consideration of the investment business case post-DG3 keeping the Scatec business model in mind. Drive/oversee operational and financial improvements and optimizations at project and portfolio levels, including re-financing and divestments from a process perspective. Work with the relevant teams within Scatec such as the Project Finance team or asset management teams for solutions, valuations and optimisations.

    Main responsibilities 

    Ownership:

    • Carry out investment management and own the Scatec business case post-DG3
    • Be responsible for the activities required for management of Scatec’s equity investments
    • Work to maximize returns through active ownership, internal and external stakeholder management
    • Maintain a holistic business and company perspective, own investor-level risks
    • Communication of learnings / key lessons learned across Regions and Functions
    • Hold Shareholder and Board representation in HoldCos and SPVs
    • Initiate/drive/oversee the process of re-financing and divestments in consultation with the relevant internal Scatec teams

    Development:

    • Support project structuring activities (in-country setup, partnerships, governance and so on)
    • Help to negotiate key commercial agreements (SPA, DSA/JDA, SHA, PPA, GCA, CTA/FA, EPCA, O&MA, MSA)
    • Support closing of Conditions Precedents
    • Oversee handover from BD to F&AM, EPC and O&M

    Construction:

    • Support and oversee sound risk management at the Project level in conjunction with the relevant internal teams
    • Support Finance & Asset Management organisation (cash flow, drawdown of senior debt, reporting etc.)
    • Help to ensure contractual and statutory compliance and corporate governance
    • Manage internal and external stakeholders (lenders, partners, government/regulators)
    • Support EPC in realizing maximum EPC Margin (timely COD, delay LDs, performance LDs, claims etc.)
    • Ensure efficient and timely Taking Over from EPC to SPV/O&M

    Operations:

    • Support and oversee sound risk management at the project level in conjunction with the relevant internal teams
    • Support O&M in realizing maximum O&M margin (performance LDs, claims, fee adjustments etc.)
    • Continue to support F&AM organization
    • Drive/oversee possible financial and operational improvements and optimization
    • Maximize Scatec share of distributions from the SPVs

    Stakeholder Relations:

    • Develop and provide strategic advice on the implementation of Managed Operations in RSA Stakeholder Relations strategy, policies and plans by ensuring alignment with South African legislation and Scatec Group policies
    • Analyse and manage the national stakeholders' interests and requirements
    • Advise operations and senior leadership on strategic engagement
    • Gather information, analyse it from a stakeholder perspective, and provide proactive solutions
    • Reputational management in national and local government
    • Seek partnership opportunities internally and externally for strategic business initiatives
    • Work out and develop tactical plans to manage the stakeholders’ expectations and address Scatec Group legacy issues in South Africa
    • Facilitate stakeholder audits working with the Group; report on the findings and compile action plans on the mitigation of shortcomings
    • Evaluate impact of engagement strategies; provide feedback to local management team

    Qualifications and competencies

    • Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Law or Engineering.
    • Ideal: Masters / Professional Body in the same field
    • Minimum: 7-9 years’ experience within the areas of project-related asset management, cost controlling, project finance-related banking or advisory, accounting or auditing
    • Skilled in advanced Financial Modelling, experienced with cash budgeting, cash management and accounting
    • Previous corporate governance and Board work experience
    • Preferably experience from the Renewables, Real Estate or Infrastructure sectors, or from other sectors with strong project finance practices or transactions in general
    • Preferably experience with negotiation and administration of project finance-related agreements, including power purchase and support agreements, EPC and O&M agreements, loan facility and shareholders’ agreements
    • Language: fluent both written and spoken in English
