Job Description

• The Statutory Operations Division has a vacancy for a permanent Technical Assistant to be appointed in Durban.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Providing support to internal clients
• Primary function is to extract grain samples from rails trucks, road trucks and lorries with a double barrel probe.
• Extract grain & grain product samples from bags with a hand probe.
• Ensuring adherence to internal business processes, procedures and policies
• Assist with general tasks when insects are found to assist the Assessor in sieving for insects.
• To assist the Assessor in drawing samples from loading grain products.
• The carrying of samples from trucks and lorries to the inspection room for analysis
• Assist the Assessor with the inspection of grain products.
• Any other ad hoc functions under supervision of the Assessor to assist him/her with their duties.
• Assist wit calibrations: - place probes into fruit during COT shipments.
• See that the inspection room and other rooms which were used and apparatus are cleaned after inspections.

Job Requirements

• A Grade 12 certificate or equivalent qualification
• A minimum of 5 years relevant experience in the PPECB as a Technical Assistant on the Grain sector
• Certificates in computer training would be advantageous
• Proven track record of taking ownership enabled by responsible and accountable behavior
• A valid code 08 drivers licence and a car would be advantageous

Experience

• Experience in data analysis, & report development 3 years
• Experience in data using SQL, understanding of data warehouse design
• Experience in coding using BI Technologies and programming language for data warehouses – to populate data into the Data Warehouse 3 years
• Experience in STAR Schema Data modelling 3 years
• Experience in UAT and deployment 3 years
• Experience in maintaining a data warehouse environment 3 years
• Experience in working in a BI team using the Agile methodology and DevSecOps processes 3 years
• Experience in Microsoft stack of tools i.e. SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, T-SQL, AZURE
• Experience in Master Data systems
• Experience in other BI technologies.

Job Requirements

Minimum Skills and Knowledge Required: 

• A tertiary qualification in an Agricultural or Food Science disciplines
• A valid code 08 driver's license and own reliable vehicle is a requirement for doing the job
• National Certificate: Perishable Produce Export Technology would be advantageous
• Practical experience of products inspected in the relevant region will be an advantage: Citrus, Mango, Litchis, Grapes, Avocado, Macadamia or Dried fruits and Container loading - 50 technical credits & 15 soft skill credits.
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Computer literate
• The ability to work independently and / or with minimum supervision
