    Reinsurance Underwriter

    What will you do?
    Santam Reinsurance has a Reinsurance Underwriter role available. The role reports to the Territorial Heads or the Head: Reinsurance Underwriting and will be based at the Santam Head Office in Bellville.

    The Reinsurance Underwriter will be responsible for underwriting and managing a reinsurance treaty book within one of Santam Reinsurance’s existing geographical regions. This job will appeal to anyone who wants to learn how to build and manage a portfolio of reinsurance risks. While previous experience is nice to have anyone with a numerate university degree, 3-5 years of post-university work and a desire to work hard and learn should apply.

    What will make you successful in this role?

    • Developing, managing and maintaining a reinsurance treaty book in the chosen territory. This is both, a client facing role and an analytics and accounting role.
    • Building and maintaining reinsurance broker and client relationships for both existing business and potential business.
    • Pricing and underwriting the reinsurance treaties using a range of actuarial and softer methods as well as checking reinsurance contracts
    • Drive profitability and growth in the chosen territory according to annual premium volume, profitability and volatility benchmarks.

    Qualification and Experience
    Minimum Requirements:

    • Undergraduate degree with a significant numerate component
    • 3-5 years’ of work experience preferably in the insurance/ reinsurance, finance, risk management or engineering sectors. 
    • Proficient in Microsoft Excel , MS Word and PowerPoint
    • Willingness to work over the Christmas and Easter Holiday period
    • Willingness to travel internationally

    Advantageous Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:

    • Master’s degree, Engineering Degree, Actuarial Qualification (FIA, CFA or actuarial students who have stopped the professional exams).

    What will you do?

    • The BITS (Business Information & Technology Services) team has a permanent position available for a Head Finance Solutions. This senior manager position will report directly to the Chief Information Officer. 
    • To formulate, implement and support the group wide Finance Business IT (Information Technology) Strategy.     Development Manager (Dynamics 365)

    CAREER OPPORTUNITY

    Santam has a unique opportunity for a Development Manager for the Microsoft Dynamics 365 environment.  This platform is being implemented across multiple companies within the Santam Group and 14 business units across more than 1200 users have been rolled on.  Santam has adopted the latest modules of Dynamics 365 and has already implemented 5 of the 12 modules of the platform.  The role of the Development Manager is to manage the Delivery and Support teams for this environment.  This position supports remote work, but several days per month is office based in Bellville, Cape Town.

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    The D365 Delivery Manager has a comprehensive understanding of the Microsoft Dynamics 365 platform and can manage people.  Projects are delivered through predefined delivery teams and for each project the correctly skilled development resources need to be allocated to project teams.  Projects need to be scheduled in such a way to support concurrent development within the same technical environment and system testing and regression testing needs to fit into this schedule in an efficient manner.

    The Support and Maintenance Team Leader reports into the Development Manager and management of incident resolution, service level management, escalations and fix deployments are all part of the accountability of the Development Manager.  Emergency fixes, incident escalations and root cause analyses are managed by the Development Manager.

    This team is located across several cities and two continents, and the Development Manager is comfortable managing remote teams efficiently and effectively.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY

    The D365 Delivery Manager is accountable and/or responsible for the following:

    • Contribute to the planning of project execution to support concurrency balanced with business demand and prioritization.
    • Work with Project Managers and Team Leaders for scheduling and allocation of development resources to projects and support teams

    The Risk Surveyor is tasked with assessing risk while applying technical knowledge. Surveyors conduct detailed risk assessments on the risk, as well as provide an in-depth view to underwriters assisting them to underwrite the risk appropriately, more specifically:
    Conducting desktop and physical surveys under the guidance of the Head surveyor.

    Insurance Consultant

    What will you do?
    Santam Operations, Commercial Contact Centre have career opportunity available for Insurance Consultant base in Bellville. The insurance consultant role is focused on providing an end-to-end service and support to brokers.

    What will make you successful in this role?

    • This role is focused on, but not limited to; servicing broker requests, including enquiries.
    • Providing telephonic/ email support to the intermediary on record, authorised representatives from the brokerage, and broker services;
    • Dealing with general insurance and policy specific enquiries;
    • Dealing with issuance of new policies/ policy maintenance/ renewal / agri aspects of policies;
    • Assisting to resolve all insurance queries within required timeframe and compliance requirements;
    • Undertaking client follow-ups when policies are cancelled to ascertain the reasons and attempt to retain the policy onto books;
    • Undertaking to adjust premiums in line with new asset values;
    • Managing client expectation on expected turnaround times for submitted requests;
    • Adhering to underwriting criteria and regional requirements;
    • Assist with profiling the client with the best suitable product and underwriting criteria;
    • Advising brokers to ensure that we meet with clients’ needs in terms of the correct cover and product;
    • Assisting in implementing solutions for improvement; and
    • Standing in for Consultants should they be absent or on leave during busy periods or absence of key resources, assisting where required.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    • Matric/ Grade 12
    • 60 commercial lines FAIS credits
    • A relevant insurance related qualification (e.g. NQF lev 4) would be advantageous 
    • Proven work experience in commercial, agriculture policy administration and underwriting within the short-term insurance industry
    • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in short term insurance commercial lines and/or Agri assets

    Information Manager

    CAREER OPPORTUNITY
    A position for an Information Manager exists in the C&P Claims team

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    • This role will be responsible for supporting C&P Claims  in coordinating and driving the implementation of the Information Management (IM) agenda of the Santam Group. 
    • We are looking for an individual with experience in the development of data related solutions to improve the Business Unit’s (BUs) data quality and financial/operational performance. This includes analysing business processes and determining how they can be improved or better supported by data.
    • They will lead/support data and information initiatives, facilitate the data governance framework application and serve as a change agent to promote data and information policy, standard, principle and process adoption, including the management of Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Data Delivery Agreements (DDAs).
    • The Information Manager must have a keen sense of how to problem solve and must be familiar with data and information domains native to the C&P Claims field to assist Data Owners and Data Stewards in the resolution of data and information issues. Issue resolution may involve interfacing BUs, therefore, they need to understand and continuously seek to build knowledge of the Santam Group landscape and how & where data and information are generated, used and shared across teams. 

    PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE: 

    • Identifying Data Owners and Data Stewards for each agreed initiative, engaging with HR on the impact of Data Roles on existing job profiles
    • Onboarding new Data Providers, management of SLA and DDA
    • Leading/supporting data and information projects, which includes defining and participating in User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
    • Performing impact assessment of proposed policies, standards, processes
    • Facilitating the data governance framework application and serve as a change agent to promote data and information policy, standard, principle and process adoption, including management of SLAs, based on agreed business rules. This includes driving processes to define people, process and system changes required.
    • Supporting the process of business term & rule definition, changes, retiring and consistent use.
    • Promoting the use of data sources that are fit for purpose and encourage their use in all reporting. This includes monitoring, reporting and escalating the use of tools that inhibit data insights enablement
    • Facilitating the definition of quality criteria, performing baseline analysis against criteria and compliance to criteria; drive initiatives to improve data quality
    • Analysing issues & their impact and facilitating issue resolutions through creating resolutions or logging & escalating issues to the appropriate forum.
    • Chair Enterprise Information Forum (EIF), between own and one or potentially more other BU/Division
    • Conduct data-related audit reviews for BU, develop improvement plans and monitor the execution of plans
    • Author and distribute required reports

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Relevant bachelor’s degree 
    • DAMA Certified Data Management Professional Practice (CDMP), preferably practitioner level, would be highly recommended 

    KNOWLEDGE and EXPERIENCE

    Minimum requirement of:

    • 3 years or more relevant experience and operational skills in data/ information governance
    • 3 years or more experience in data quality management, operations and tools
    • 2 years relevant experience as a Project Manager
    • 2 years relevant experience in Business Process Management
    • 3 years relevant experience as a Change Management Associate or manager of teams in a high-change environment
    • Experience in the use of Jira and Confluence will be beneficial
    • Experience in a short-term insurance environment would be highly recommended
    • MS SQL knowledge advantageous
    • Business Analysis knowledge/qualification advantageous
