    Graphic Designer - Cape Town

    What You'll Do…the exciting stuff!:

    • Partner with teams or clients to brainstorm and strategise a variety of creative materials, from presentations to programming collateral, signage, newsletters, and marketing magic.
    • Transform strategic goals into dazzling designs while maintaining brand integrity.
    • Craft original content with perfect colour, text, font, imagery, and layout usage.
    • Stay ahead of the curve by using trend intelligence and market knowledge in your design processes.

     Your magic ingredients:

    • A design wizard with exceptional creativity and a flair for innovation.
    • At least two years of experience rocking design software, like Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.
    • Stellar communication skills paired with organisational prowess to thrive in our rapid environment.
    • A sense of humor is essential; we love a good laugh!

    Bonus Points:

    • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in graphic design, art, or a similar field.
    • Photography skills and photo-editing wizardry are a huge plus.

    Disinformation Desk Journalist (Cape Town or Johannesburg, 12 month Contract)

    What you'll do: 

    • Dive into viral disinformation and campaigns, busting myths (or confirming rumours) for our News24 readers. 
    • Create news and feature articles, meeting deadlines and sticking to News24's style. 
    • Brainstorm daily debunks and fact-check ideas. 
    • Connect with a network of people to work on debunking/confirming. 
    • Keep up with the quality and style that News24 sets. 
    • Follow the South African Press Code rules. 
    • Help whip up multimedia elements for articles when needed. 
    • Find experts for deep-dive interviews on hot topics.

    What we are looking for: 

    • Genius-level general knowledge and a knack for sniffing out lies and nonsense. 
    • Any training or background in OSINT and disinformation is a major plus. 
    • Be a pro on all major social media platforms. 
    • Have a solid network of contacts (way more than just official folks). 
    • Work well on your own. 
    • Have a strong grip on English and write catchy, quirky articles. 
    • Handle pressure and tight deadlines like a champ. 
    • Manage your time well, multitask effectively, and get things done promptly. 
    • Know your way around the online news scene and digital publishing tools. 

    What you need to have: 

    • A diploma or degree in journalism, languages, politics, or media studies. 
    • Experience writing for big news organisations, reporting for online, wire news, or broadcast services. 
    • At least 5 years of news media experience. 
    • Ideally, some experience with creating multimedia content. 
    • A valid driver’s license.

    Schools Journalist (Johannesburg or Cape Town)

    Duties and Responsibilities: 

    • Find, research, investigate and pitch original content and ideas for news, feature and analysis stories around the positive work of schools in South Africa;
    • Write quality news and feature articles related to this good news beat, adhering to strict deadlines and News24’s style;
    • Break developing events and original reportage when required;
    • Create target-market-specific articles and contribute to multi-media content;
    • Generate ideas for news and features stories on a daily and weekly basis;
    • Adhere to the quality, style and content standards as laid out and required by News24;
    • Comply with the requirements of the South African Press Code;
    • May be required to assist and support freelance staff and junior permanent staff;
    • Proofread articles;
    • Generate and liaise with network of contacts to assist with research or completion of articles/features;
    • Will be required to take photographs and shoot video;
    • Live tweet stories from location as they unfold;
    • Secure newsmakers for in-depth interviews on topical issues.

    Skills & Competencies:

    • A passion for South Africa's schools and future leaders;
    • Proficient in relevant computer software packages and application used in the media field;
    • Passion for media, knowledge of current affairs and schools in South Africa;
    • Established network of contacts (over and above official spokespersons);
    • Strong command of English;
    • Creativity;
    • Able to work under extreme pressure and to strict deadlines;
    • Good time management, the ability to multitask effectively and complete tasks timeously;
    • Sound news judgement;
    • Knowledge of the online news environment and digital publishing tools, including mobile video and photos;
    • Knowledge of social media;
    • Detail orientation;
    • Good people skills;
    • Quality orientation and the ability to deliver clean copy;
    • Good decision-making abilities;
    • Persistence and results orientated;
    • Strong questioning and listening skills;
    • The ability to work independently;
    • Resilient.

    Minimum Requirements: 

    • Diploma or degree in journalism, languages, politics or media studies;
    • Experience writing for an online or wire news operation, or mainstream newspaper, magazine or a broadcast news service;
    • At least 1-3 years’ experience;
    • Preferred would be some experience in producing multi-media content;
    • Good general knowledge;
    • Insightful knowledge of South Africa’s socio-political landscape;
    • Knowledge of topical issues and current affairs;
    • Demonstrable network of contacts and a portfolio of work;
    • Valid driver’s licence.1
