    Senior Development Scientist

    Roles and Responsibilities

    • Designs, plans and executes assigned research and/or development-related experiments/projects utilising established and innovative procedures, and applying scientific knowledge and accumulated experience to complete projects.
    • Contributes to the definition and timely achievement of overall project goals. Makes recommendations, and when appropriate, acts independently to resolve scientific problems encountered during experimental procedures to improve productivity of results. Ensures activities are consistent with project critical path, and responds appropriately to changing priorities
    • Assumes responsibility for the accuracy, quality, and timeliness of experimental results. Summarises experimental results, and reviews conclusions with supervisor/project leader. Communicates results of experiments
    • Analyzes, interprets and records experimental data in a timely manner according to established formats. Produces reports and documents; presents findings at internal, group or departmental meetings. Forms conclusions, and provides insight into process improvements. Integrates previous and current results to determine next experimental steps and the impact of long-range project goals. May assist in preparing summaries, memos, internal reports, presentations, manuscripts, etc
    • Plans and executes work independently and manages their own time to accomplish assigned objectives
    • Keeps people leader/project leader informed of project status, particularly of significant findings and results in critical problem areas
    • Establishes, as appropriate, cross-functional relationships
    • Serves as a subject matter expert cross-functionally
    • Keeps informed of trends and developments in the area of scientific responsibility
    • Applies concepts of a particular field or specialisation to resolve problems of intermediate scope and complexity
    • May lead assigned projects or technical teams
    • May have supervisory responsibility; providing guidance to new team members and leading internal/external teams and building professional relationships
    • Decisions impact project team(s) and/or broader organisation. Ensures appropriate decisions to minimise negative impact in terms of delay in operations, financial expense, or customer or user dissatisfactions
    • Participates in routine lab maintenance, lab safety, ISO, and QSR implementation
    • Performs work according to established internal safety guidelines and procedures, and as specified by appropriate external regulatory agencies (e.g., OSHA).

    Qualifications And Educational Requirements

    • An advanced degree in Science or related field - Honour’s or Master’s Degree in Science is preferred
    • Minimum 5 years’ (or equivalent) experience in biotechnology applications/process development/product development/technical manufacturing functions
    • Experience as a wet-lab scientist is required

    Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

    • Knowledge of NGS applications or a proven biochemistry background will be beneficial
    • Should possess working knowledge of automation, instrumentation, manufacturing processes or design processes
    • Should possess working knowledge of reagent/assay development and manufacturing processes in a health authority regulated environment
    • Prior experience managing projects, programs or portfolios in a strategic or product context
    • Strong communication skills (oral and written) with the ability to present at all functional levels
    • Ability to collaborate and deliver in a complex global organisation

    Technical Lead - Informatics, Research and Lab Execution

    The Position

    This position is for a strong Technical resource who will be part of a development team assisting the Product Team in delivery and operations of products within the Research Labs Product Line. You will be joining a team that is in transition from a traditional waterfall to a product-centric, customer-centric delivery model working to incorporate a DevOps team. You have a strong foundation in Agile methodologies to support the team. In this position you will be part of a Release Train delivering critical products for lab experiment execution to a global customer base within the R&D DIA IT solutions portfolio.

    Duties

    • Support the local IT Infrastructure (virtual and local servers, NetAPP storage, databases, clients PC, local network, WiFi)
    • Provide strong technical leadership for the development and operation of business critical products, and for the cloud operations (AWS)
    • Strengthen the communication and collaboration between different IT entities within Roche, the business, and external service providers
    • Guide the team in the transition to Agile and product centric approach

    You offer the following competencies

    Strong communication skills and good presentation

    • Experience in collaborating with teams on complex projects or programs, with decisions across multiple areas. Good negotiation skills, fast integration in big teams
    • Demonstrated experience facilitating meetings at multiple levels of an organization and an understanding of facilitation techniques
    • Experience managing senior stakeholders and providing recommendations to senior executives
    • Good communicator able to assist, together with business analysts, with the gathering of requirements, identifying gaps and meeting with various customers and partners to design innovative solutions and proposals to fill capability gaps

    Hands-on technically sound profile

    • Executes technical implementation efforts such as configuration laboratory instrumentation, lab connectivity, developing API integrations, supporting data flow and ingestion, and operational support for the R&D business teams

    Strong technical leadership

    • Provide technical thought leadership in day-to-day technical activities to support the product line, as well as for highly complex projects as needed. Drive resolution to the most technical and complex problems occurring within the supported systems. Provide mentoring, guidance, and training to other technical team members. Foster technical innovation within the team and leads by example when developing solutions

    Collaboration

    • Lead activities involving business customers to understand their requirements and ongoing strategy, represent the team and the product line’s business vision to the vendors, coordinate the day-to-day operations and maintenance of our products with vendors, Roche architects, SMEs, dev team members, as well as developing technical solutions and implementing R&D products for meeting the business goals

    Agile

    • Manage and optimize the flow of product value using various tools, such as the Program and Solution Kanbans, boards, trackers.
    • Provide subject matter expertise, mentoring, guidance, and training and Agile best practices support to team members to lead the transition

    For this position, you bring the following qualification:

    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science/technology, or related field
    • Five (5) years of experience with designing/implementing technology solutions for mission critical systems
    • Systems integration experience with large complex business environments
    • Strong working Linux knowledge, including file system manipulation and performance monitoring, scripting language skills (shell, Perl, sed, awk).
    • Strong experience with deployment of AWS cloud and SaaS solutions, solid understanding of cloud-native products and microservices architecture
    • Successfully led large-scale software projects (with multiple tracks of work and teams in multiple locations) from concept to delivery.
    • Fluent English skills (written and spoken)
    • Flexible working across timezones

    Desired Experience

    • Experience with software development, laboratory information systems
    • Healthcare software background within a regulated environment, International teamwork or global functional experience is preferred
    • Experience with GxP relevant systems
    • Knowledge of Diagnostics business
