    Senior Committee Coordinator (AD08)

    Main purpose: 

    • To provide committee service to the Governance and Management committees of the University as well as their standing committees. Additional special meetings may be required throughout the year. Service of ad hoc committees and task teams may also be required occasionally. The incumbent is also responsible for liaising with and where necessary to provide an oversight role to other Committee Coordinator/s on work produced in the University Secretariat, which is related to the aforementioned committees.

    Brief Description        
    Key responsibilities include the following

    • Preparation of notices, agendas, minutes and documentation for Governance and Management committees of the University
    • Liaison with and where necessary an oversight role to other Committee Coordinator/s
    • Administration of elections
    • Maintenance of committee membership lists
    • Committeerelated tasks delegated by the ViceChancellor/Deputy ViceChancellors or other senior staff including the Head: University Secretariat, which can involve answering queries, background research, setting up of discussion groups, drafting letters and proofreading documents

    Minimum requirements

    • Degree on NQF level 7 or a Diploma on NQF level 6 as a minimum qualification
    • Minimum of five years proven experience in – 
    • Drafting and editing highlevel meeting documentation, e.g. drafting of reports and the compilation of agendas and minutes
    • Excellent proficiency in written and oral skills in the English language

    Required competencies (knowledge, skills and behavioural attributes) 

    Knowledge of the following –

    • Email systems and its functionalities to facilitate meeting management
    • Administrative systems and processes
    • Compiling highlevel reports, agendas and minutes
    • Excellent planning, organisational, administrative and time management skills

    Demonstrable ability to –

    • Précis debate at a high level and compile coherent reports
    • Prioritise, pay attention to detail and act on information, maintain confidentiality, collegiality and professionalism
    • Perform in a highly pressurised and deadline driven environment
    • Effective administration of online/hybrid meetings
    • Demonstrable experience in computer literacy in Microsoft Office products and services, especially Microsoft Outlook, Word, Teams, OneDrive and SharePoint

    Preference

    • BA (English Major)/ (Communication) or equivalent 
    • Certificate in Corporate Governance and Administration
    • Experience of working in a university or higher education environment
    • Copy editing skills

    Technician I.3.04

    • The Department of Pharmacy and Pharmacology has well-equipped laboratories and facilities with collaborative ties with local industry to support its research output. The Department is looking for a part-time (50%) technicians to make a major contribution to ensure the smooth running of all labs and support student practical teaching sessions, researchers and assist in the implementation of schedules for the service/maintenance/troubleshooting of all specialized lab equipment liaise with the principal/senior technician.

    Brief Description        
    Key responsibilities include the following:

    • Prepare, sterilize, and maintain laboratory equipment, culture media, and consumables for teaching and research activities.
    • Oversee aseptic techniques and ensure proper use of biosafety cabinets, incubators, and other sterile culture facilities.
    • Conduct routine maintenance, calibration, and performance checks of cell culture and related scientific instruments.
    • Ensure strict compliance with biosafety, aseptic procedures, health and safety regulations, and institutional policies.
    • Supervise and train students during practical sessions, providing technical guidance in sterile handling and cell culture techniques.
    • Maintain accurate records of cell lines, culture conditions, equipment usage, maintenance schedules, and laboratory inventory.
    • Assist academic staff with research projects, including experimental setup, monitoring cell growth, and troubleshooting technical challenges.
    • Manage storage and proper labelling of cell cultures, chemicals, and reagents, while ensuring safe disposal of biohazardous and chemical waste.
    • Implement and monitor laboratory access control and security protocols to maintain a sterile and safe working environment

    Requirements:

    • BPharm/MPharm/Bsc/National Diploma/BTech in a relevant scientific field
    • Minimum 1 year’s laboratory experience
    • Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and regulations
    • Technical proficiency with scientific instrumentation
    • Proficiency in aseptic techniques, cell culture handling, and operation of sterile laboratory equipment.
    • Ability to supervise and train students in practical laboratory sessions while ensuring compliance with biosafety and safety standards.
    • Strong record-keeping, equipment maintenance, and laboratory management skills, including safe storage and disposal of chemicals and biohazardous materials.

    • Ability to lift heavy loads i.e. equipment, gas cylinders, and boxes.
    • Experience as a teaching assistant on undergraduate laboratory practicals.
    • Hands-on experience in instruments such as FTIR, UV, TGA, DSC and XRD

    Senior Human Resources Officer (AD08)

    Purpose:

    • The incumbent is responsible to provide HR support to the various departments under Central Human Resources Office through translating business strategy into HR initiatives and processes. It involves activities such as recruitment, employment equity, labour relations, development and review of the University policy and procedure, HR administration, organisational compensation and benefits.

    Key responsibilities include the following:

    • Responsible for the full function of staff recruitment across all levels
    • Responsible for the procedure of on boarding of new employees and ensuring that all paperwork pertaining to new employee benefits is completed
    • Partnering and collaboration with line managers to identify their operational needs
    • Liaison with payroll office on various matters such as leave payouts, allowances, ex gratia payments etc
    • Ensure that University policy and applicable legislation is adhered to and advise business on such
    • Ensure the application of EE targets on recruitment process and advice line managers about compliance
    • Liaise with Human Resource Development Unit relating to training needs of different units
    • Facilitate workshops on major changes to policy
    • Co-ordinate and facilitate departmental induction to provide new employees information pertaining to human resource
    • Maintain HEMIS, Tax year end and MASTER data reports
    • Advise clients on various employee relations matters

    Requirements:

    • A recognized degree in Social Sciences or Industrial Psychology or Human Resources
    • 5 years HR generalist experience, 2 years of which should be in a senior position (ideally in a higher education environment)
    • Solid knowledge and experience of the Oracle HR information system is essential.
    • Knowledge of various Acts LRA, BCEA, EE
    • Good verbal and written communication skills with ability to prepare reports
    • Attention to detail in all tasks performed
    • Must have a customer centric approach
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality
    • Project Management skills would be an advantage

    AI Solutions Engineer (IT08)

    Main Purpose:

    • The AI Solutions Engineer is responsible for the design, development, deployment, and operationalization of AI and machine learning models to solve strategic and operational challenges across the university. This includes working on projects in student success, human resources, finance, procurement, and other institutional domains.
    • The incumbent will lead AI development efforts (70%), including data pre-processing, model training, validation, and full-cycle deployment into production environments (APIs, dashboards, workflow tools). The remaining 30% involves supporting reporting and analytics functions to translate insights into institutional decision-making.

    Brief Description        
    Key Responsibilities:

    • Design and train machine learning models, perform feature engineering and model selection, develop reproducible and modular machine learning pipelines, integrate models into real-time and batch processing architectures, deploy models to production environments, monitor and evaluate model performance post-deployment, package models for stakeholder-facing platforms, and document the full model lifecycle.
    • Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines, automate model training workflows, implement robust version control, establish audit trails, and automate logging systems 
    • Transform complex machine learning outputs and statistical findings.
    • Ensure compliance with institutional and national data protection policies, particularly POPIA, apply fairness and bias-mitigation techniques, evaluate and document model explainability using tools such as SHAP, LIME, develop and maintain ethical impact assessments (EIAs), promote responsible AI education and awareness.
    • Ensure comprehensive, relevant, and accurate operational, management, and statutory reports are available,  support ad-hoc reporting and exploratory analysis requests
    • Engage stakeholders across multiple institutional domains, facilitate co-design sessions and discovery workshops, act as a liaison between technical teams and business units, document solution requirements, and support stakeholder capacity-building.
    • Exemplify and promote the BIS core values in the BIS Service Charter.

    Requirements:

    • Qualification: Master’s in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Engineering, Mathematical Statistics, or equivalent
    • Experience: Minimum of 3 years in AI/ML engineering, data science, or analytics roles

    Essential Skills:

    • Proficient in Python, SQL, and model development libraries (scikit-learn, XGBoost, pandas)
    • Experience deploying models using Flask, FastAPI, or similar
    • Familiar with Docker, Git, MLflow, Airflow, or other MLOps tools
    • Strong grasp of model evaluation, bias detection, and interpretability
    • Solid understanding of enterprise architecture, APIs, and data security standards
    • Experience in programming PL/SQL, SQL, Python, Oracle Analytics Cloud (OAC),  SAP Business Objects, and PowerBI
    • Experience in data visualization and communication of results to diverse audiences
    • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of dashboards, reports, and forecasts for internal users and external stakeholders
    • High level of analytics, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
    • Utilize statistical techniques for data analysis and provide insights into university processes and performance
    • Participate in the development of data standards and procedures within the analytics team
    • Collaborate with senior analysts to identify and prioritize analytical projects that support decision-making processes
    • Training and Support to end-users on how to access and utilize reports and dashboards and develop and maintain documentation on reports, documentation and data processes.

    Preferences:

    • Understanding of University Academic Structure and systems
    • Understanding of University data.
