    Afrikaans Teacher

    Part-time Afrikaans Teacher for Social Impact Project, Immediate Availability

    Valenture Institute seeks passionate, part-time senior phase Afrikaans teacher to teach a pioneering class of future changemakers at Beacon Hill high school in Mitchell's Plein.

    iBhodi Trust is a bold project to create a new blueprint for delivering high quality education throughout South Africa to students who need it most. The first cohort of iBhodi Trust students have been admitted to study an internationally recognised curriculum, delivered entirely online at a dynamic physical classroom set up at Beacon Hill High School with 30 computers, high-speed internet and collaborative work stations. A Mentor is physically

    placed in Beacon Hill High School to provide 1:1 support in person to help

    students keep their learning and holistic development on track.

    A key requirement for the project is that students continue with the Afrikaans caps curriculum. In this vain, we are seeking an excellent Afrikaans teacher to come in and teach the only lessons that this cohort will have in person. They are a committed group, and we are equally committed to them and their future success!

    Reporting to Dean of Languages at Valenture Institute.

    Key requirements:

    • Willing and able to travel to Beacon Hill high school in Mitchells Plein for two lessons per week
    • Four year teaching qualification
    • 5+ years of teaching experience
    • SACE registered
    • Police clearance
    • Sound knowledge of CAPS curriculum
    • Hardworking and trustworthy
    • Willing to collate and feed back insights into the wider Valenture team working on the iBhodi Trust project

    Finance Officer

    The role:

    We are seeking an exceptional, energetic, dynamic and talented Accountant/Bookkeeper, to provide and keep accurate and complete financial records within our rapidly evolving finance function.

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • All general ledger accounting, month-end close, and account reconciliations
    • Debtors: checking customer invoices generated by the system, issuing credit notes, controlling debtors age analysis
    • Creditors Management: credit applications, processing, reconciliations and payments.
    • Cashbook Management: processing and reconciliation.
    • General Ledger: processing and reconciliation, general review and ownership
    • Audit: Assisting with audit preparations
    • Fixed Assets: maintaining fixed asset register, calculating and processing depreciation 
    • Expense Claims: managing, reconciling and paying expense claims
    • Bank: payments and reconciliations
    • Employee Tax: Preparing Monthly Employee Tax (PAYE, UIF, SDL)
    • Assist in implementation of new finance processes (within the company and the accounting system)
    • Cash flow management
    • VAT Control and returns
    • Filing and document control

    Qualifications:

    • Candidate must have a minimum of 3-5 years experience in general accounting/bookkeeping
    • Matric/Grade 12 with Maths and Accounting
    • Relevant bookkeeping qualification or studying towards BCom or equivalent degree
    • Experience in Xero would be advantageous
    • Solid Google sheets (or Excel) experience
    • Understanding of finance function and sub - processes

    • Be deadline-driven
    • Able to work independently and in a team environment
    • Adaptable and able to learn and develop within the role (especially given the rapidly changing startup culture of the company)

    • Self-learning required (especially on systems)
